WD Passport Elite 320 - won't install autobackup launcher

I think I originally posted this question in the wrong category, so forgive the repetition . .
I just bought the 320 GB Western Digital My Passport Elite and tried to install on my new HP laptop which runs Windows Vista-64. I tried to install the autobackup launcher. Now when I go to the "Anywhere Backup," I am getting an error message "MemeoBackup Launcher has stopped working." Is this an incompatability issue? I've tried troubleshooting for the past two hours. The troubleshooting steps on their website are too techincal for me, and I don't want to screw up my laptop with all of my work files on it. I'm lost. Can anyone explain this problem and solution in simple terms? SO FRUSTRATING!

I just spoke to WD support...here is how to solve your problem:( I had the same problem and it works great now)
1. Connect your WD ext. drive.
2. Click open Computer.
3. Double click open the WD blue icon.
4. Double click open WD_Windows Tools.
5. Double click open WD drive manager.
6. Double click open the Setup icon for Vista 64 (the other icon
is for x86 windows)
run the setup and it will take care of your problem. enjoy!

WD MyPassPort 320 GB partially dead after an attempt to make it Win8 recovery drive.

Maybe you can try to format it to see if you can get the space back. But one thing important is that you may need to backup your files first. If not, you may lose them. Or you may try some file recovery tool after you format your drive. This may be help, I've try it, workable. http://www.uflysoft.com/data-recovery-mac/ Hope it can help and hope you can get back your 320G back.

Passport essential, how do I recover the backed up files? I can't get them to open, don't know how.

If you used the WD software, I would recommend installing it on the destination computer if it's not already installed. Once the software is installed you will want to look for the retrieve tab. You normally have an option to retrieve all data to original directores, or you can manually select/choose the data you would like to recover.

Back up files

You will need to fix your computer, re-install the WD Sync software, and then synchronize. The files on your WD, using WD Sync, don't appear as regular files, rather a format unique to Sync.

WD Passport Elite 320 - won't install autobackup launcher

The problems is this: at this point, Western Digital is not supporting Vista 64-bit with any of their related software. Granted, some things will still work while using the 32-bit version, but some won't, and the backup software is a prime example of the latter.

You might try downloading the latest version of the software from here:

http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=204&lang=en

Chances are, it will still barf, but it can't hurt to try it out. An alternative is to use another backup application; the one included with Vista ought to work. I wish I had better news, and believe me, as a user of both XP 64 and Vista 64, I feel your pain.

Cheers

Nick
