When trying to scan pictures and save them to iPhoto, the printer is saying that there is no computer connection and to refer the product documentation for troubleshooting. There is a computer connection and I can print from my computer to the all-in-one, it is only when I try and scan photos from the printer to my computer that it gives me this error. I am running Mac OS X 10.7 and have checked for software updates. I have deleted and added the printer to the Scan and Print options on the System Preferences. I would download the HP Photosmart scanner troubleshooting utility but it is not available for Mac, which is ludicrous. Please help.

I had the same problem and this is what I did to fix it.
Go to control panel
choose printers
look to left and find scanners and cameras
click scanner
a pop up should direct you to scanning options and will lead your scanner to scan the item
hope this helps

Populate the destination list
You must populate the destination list in HP Solution Center for the
Scan To
function to work. Follow these steps to populate the destination list.
NOTE:
HP
Solution Center is the software that came with the product. You must
make sure the software is installed on the computer for all the product
functions to work correctly. The software is also necessary for
completing this procedure. Install HP Solution Center if it is not
already installed.
NOTE:
It might take several minutes for the list to populate.
If
the appropriate programs are already listed as scan destinations,
discontinue this procedure. You must reinstall the software.

I typed in HP into the Finder to find the HP Photosmart Uninstall (cause as of yet I have still to find an Add/Remove Programs thing on my Mac like there is on a PC) Well I completely uninstalled all the drivers. Then added my printer again from the Print & Scan System Preferences. When I did that it reinstalled all of the drivers. And now I can scan if I go to System Preference -> Print & Scan -> Hit the Scan tab at the top -> Open Scanner. When I did this before reinstalling the drivers there would just be the spinning dial and it wouldn't scan, now it works. I still cannot use the Photo Menu and little screen on the actual Photosmart All-In-One like I used to before upgrading to Lion (which was a lot easier that having to open the scanner utility each time, do an overview scan and then an actual scan) but at least it's something.
