The PDA continues to randomly go into sleep mode with a warning the battery cover was opened. The battery cover was replaced and the problem continues. Any solutions?
I have the same problem. I've found that the Innopocket magnum case will hold the cover in place and pretty much stop it doing this. Unfortunately, the case won't fit if you have an extended battery.
I've tried taping down the cover with some success, but the hard case worked better.

To everyone that's having problems with not booting up or the back plate battery cover warning messages on your Dell PDA, I think I've found the answer, I have 2 Dell's PDA's, 1 a X51v & the other a X50v, I was having problems with both of them (1 had battery cover warning messages & the other had a screen freezing) so I stripped the 2 of them down when I had both rear shells together I noticed that the small piece of sponge that Dell fit to the latching mechanism one was on the far right of the latching plate on one & the other was in the middle of the plate, I looked to see which shell belong to which PDA & the one I was having problem with battery cover warning messages the sponge far right, so I swapped the back shells around & booted it up BINGO!!!!! problem solved, I'm fairly sure the SPONGE SHOULD BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE LATCH PLATE, if I'm right Dell engineers & executives should be shoot, such a simple fix why didn't they let owners know about this. This has got to be easier than trying to bridge the switch contacts or rip the switch off the board, give it a go guys, Please let me know if it works on your PDA. I will upload some photo should any of you guys need.
This is my 1st posting on this forum although I've done a lot of reading regarding the battery cover I think this is the correct solution.

There is a sensor on the latch that detects when it has opened. Over time, the sensor wears down. You can put a dab of glue on it (so that the button presses down even further) or fold a tiny piece of paper onto it. You can find the sensor right above where the latch is, after you've opened the back cover.
On the left side of the pda is a little slide button with a lock symbol on it, make sure it is slid down. This button is a key/screen lock to ensure you dont push any buttons accidentally.
I had exactly this problem before. It seems that the extruding bits under the cover were a bit worn so that they failed to consistently activate the sensors below. I cut two pieces of sticker and stuck to the moving parts below and the problem has gone (for now).
paper wedged in the sensor sometimes work. More extreme is 'surgically' removing the switch and connecting it up.... see aximsite.com for a guide.... otherwise take it to a technician.
You can get a replacement rechargeable one at batterytrader, here is the link - Dell Axim X51 battery, they also do a couple of extended versions just search on the site, this also fits the dell axim x50 pda batteries
I have the same problem. Its from an over sensitive switch. You arent actually opening the battery case you are pressing against it. This triggers the switch and makes it think you are taking the battery latch off. I haven't actually tried it but you could open up the Axim and cut the cable going to that sensor/switch?
Here are some photo's of the before & after showing where the sponge will be when your Dell PDA is faulty (not booting up or battery latch warning messages & where it needs to be repositioned to, the photo's should be self explanatory, I used some double sided tape to refix the sponge but super glue might work but don't blame me if it runs into the latch mechanize & gluing it up for ever, this does really work & better than messing about with the PCB. I have posted more details on this forum just search for the title ""Why do I get a battery latch open warning Axim x51v"
Goes in to sleep mode too quickly
