Re:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

Creative knowledge base gives this answer for blank screen on a Zen MX:
White screens or blank screens could be easily resolved with a firmware reload. The following steps will take you through the troubleshooting steps.
Reset your player and verify if the screen is able to display its contents
Make sure that the player has fully charged battery
Finally, perform the recovery tool if the screen still does not display any contents properly through the following site:
same problem, broke my screen, ordered a new screen off ebay and replaced it. now it works fine most of the time but sometimes external display freezes. sometimes goes black, sometimes goes multicolor pixelated (full screen, in blocks, or lines) when this happens sometimes touchpad still works, others not. removing battery usualy temporarily fixes.
Sounds like the LCD controller has gone bad - must be replaced.
Try every "soft fix" first to be sure:
*Reset - button on side
*Firmware Upgrade (sounds like you tried it)
*Reformat the player -p.68 of manual - available on iRiver website if lost - enter model as H300 series
*Recovery - Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
