The error message "Disc Error Playback feature may not be available on this disc" can have a few different causes. Here are some of the most common:
The disc is not compatible with the DVD player. Some DVD players are only compatible with certain regions or formats of discs. If the disc you are trying to play is not compatible with your DVD player, you will get this error message.
The disc is damaged. If the disc is scratched, dirty, or otherwise damaged, it may not be able to be read by the DVD player.
The DVD player is faulty. If the DVD player is faulty, it may not be able to read discs correctly.
Here are some things you can try to fix the problem:
Try playing the disc in another DVD player. If the disc plays in another DVD player, then the problem is with your DVD player.
Clean the disc. Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the disc. Be careful not to scratch the disc.
Format the disc. If the disc is formatted for a different region or format, you may need to format it for your DVD player.
Reset the DVD player. If the DVD player is faulty, you may need to reset it.
If you have tried all of these things and you are still getting the error message, then you may need to replace the DVD player.
Follow this procedure to troubleshoot if the DVD player cannot read or play the inserted disc.
Ensure the inserted disc is compatible with the DVD player.IMPORTANT: Refer to the operating instructions supplied with the product for a list of compatible disc. Manuals are available online in the Manuals/Specs/Warranty section of the Sony® eSupport Web site.
Use a soft cloth to clean the disc.
Examine the disc for any cracks or scratches that might be interfering with playback.
Attempt to play another disc.NOTES:
If another disc plays in the DVD player, then the previous disc is faulty.
Some recordable discs may not play correctly because of the quality of the recording, the physical condition of the disc, or the characteristics of the recording device or authoring software used.
Remove the disc from the DVD player.
Turn off the DVD player.
Unplug the power cord of the DVD player from the AC outlet.
Let the DVD player remain without power for 1 minute.
Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
Turn on the DVD player.
Insert the disc into the DVD player.
Attempt to play the disc.
If still persists, its time for your device to get serviced.
i would say for some reason your dvd player is not compatible from now on with that brand of blank dvd!
get the firmware update from the brand website all you do is download the file burnit on a cd and put it in the dvd player should fix most and eventual problems
You can buy a CD/DVD player cleaner, which is basically a set of brushes attached to a CD. This will gently brush the CD/DVD laser and hopefully that will restore your player to full working order.
