I recorded a program on a tape. The following morning I tried to play it back. I hit Rewind and didn't wait for it to stop and pressed Play. The tape is stuck, won't eject and I'd like to get it out without damaging the VCR unit. Any suggestions?
The suggestion work fine. The tape was extracted without damage. Now the Tape in indicator continues to flash, without the tape in the unit. The Cassette will not insert as usual. The motor driving the Black rubber belt does not run. How can I check the motor to see if it is defective? With the Power on and the Power and VCR/TV indicators lit, I insert the cassette manually (altho it doesn't seat) and the two indicators go out and the tape in indictor begins to flash. my vcr was playing a video last night I was halfway through when I had to leave the room. I didn't want to miss anything so I tried to eject the tape, but every time I try to eject the tape the VCR just makes some noise and then turns off on its own. I know my dad taught me a trick for getting a tape out of the vcr using only a pen and your hands but i can't remeber what it is. I have tried to remove the tape manually by pressing back on the tape and pulling up, but i can't pull it out.

Re:
Depending on th einternal design of the vcr. look for the loading/unloading mech, by finding the blak rubber belt that is looped from the motor to a pully. now turn it one way. it may thak 25 to 50 complete rotations of the belt. try turning both ways, one will load & 1 will unlaod.
good luck.
you could put a small dc voltage to the motor, typically 5 to 8volts. the motor should turn one way or the other. but this would not indicate if the motor control ic's in the unit are working.and sorry but i do not know why the indicators are flashing.you could put a small dc voltage to the motor, typically 5 to 8volts. the motor should turn one way or the other. but this would not indicate if the motor control ic's in the unit are working.and sorry but i do not know why the indicators are flashing.

it sounds like you need to use the rewind option first to rewind the tape. If the tape isn't rewound, then you're unable to play it. And this might cause the eject issue that you're experiencing as well.
There are any number of reasons why it won't play. The loading basket is jammed, the video tape has got tangled up in the mechanical section of the vcr or the loading gears are stripped. Unplug machine and remove top, [screws side and back] if the tape is spewed carefully remove by cutting it and clean tape particles, for any other problem have a technician check it out.
assuming you have power to the machine , i would suggest the ejection drive belt has stretched , 2 choices here , take it somewhere and get it fixed or unplug it from power supply and remove the top casing yourself and have a look.
There schould be a release buuton on the rear of the machine. It's usually recessed and may be difficult to see. Press this with the yip if a ballpoint pen and extract the tape. If the tape is wrapped around the record/playback heads your only option is to remove the top cover and manually remove the tape. Sounds difficult but if you take your time it's not too bad a job.
When you put the player into rewind, is it at the beginning of the tape that it ejects? If so, it may be because you have the machine in timer mode. If you have a pre-recorded tape in a VCR, it will automatically eject the tape because you`ve not to record on a pre-recorded tape. I hope this help, Ian
make sure the tv is on channel 3, and the vcr also on channel 3 -if trying to record from cable or satalite. then make sure tape is rewound all the way. do a test by hitting record on vcr. let it record for a few minutes. rewind it, then just hit play. Dont change any channels until you are ready to record the program of choice. After this test. And recording is successful. Rewind the tape again. And change the channel to your choice. Hit record at time of or go into menu of your vcr and set up a time to record shows.
It sounds like the cassette is not releasing the tape so the machine can put it around the heads. This could damage the machine. Don't use it. A two dollar tape is not worth damaging your vcr. Throw it away.
you posted 2 different problems here... to answer this one ". The tape is stuck, won't eject and I'd like to get it out without damaging the VCR unit."...open unit, find motor that moves tape ejector and spin that motor by hand (power off)
the other problem, "the VCR will not insert a tape. It keeps rejecting it."...open unit and fully turn ejection motor until home position is reached...this is a home sensor switch not being activated.
The suggestion work fine. The tape was extracted without damage. Now the Tape in indicator continues to flash, without the tape in the unit. The Cassette will not insert as usual. The motor driving the Black rubber belt does not run. How can I check the motor to see if it is defective?
