I'm at my wits end. I get the dial tone and I hear the chirps but I believe the machine stops. Then I get an Incomplete Transmission report -"NG". This has happened before and I unplug power (or turn off the machine) and sometimes disconnect the USB cable (I think I read on a forum that that will reset the machine). Usually it will work again for a while, then start acting up again. Today I've done this repeatedly but it won't reset. Otherwise, I LOVE this machine. HELP!!!

Display the fax menu and then select Print Report\List and print the Users Data List. Check the setting of the ECM TX setting. If this is ON turn it OFF. This is the Error Correction Mode setting, probability is the fax you are sending to is not ECM compatible. The MP830 is suppose to automatically send in standard mode if receiving machine is not ECM compatible however I am not sure how well this works. Turn the ECM setting off by displaying the Fax Menu and then select Maintenance\Settings, Device Settings, Fax Settings, TX settings, ECM TX.

You need to apply Canon's firware update at http://www.canon.com and
search for fumx310swin1040en.exe if you have Windows or for an iMac the
file is MX310 series Firmware Upgrade Utility Ver. 1.040 (Mac OS X)
with a file name of fumx310sosx1040en.dmg
Too bad Canon can't be bothered to email it's registered users to
notify them that the machine they sold us was shipped with defective
firmware and attach the fix to the message to save us from hunting for
the solution.
SOURCE: My Canon PIXMA MX860 stopped sending faxes. Now,
Two Issues:
1. The Transmission Speed of the MX860 may be too fast.
Solution: on FAX Menu go to Settings>Device Settings>FAX Settings>Transmission Settings >"TX start speed" and change to 14400 or lower (14400 worked for me).
2. The recipient FAX machine may be receiving by a different number than
the one you dial. This may occur if you dial a free-calling no.
Solution: Go to Transmission Settings as above>"Check RX fax info" and turn it to OFF. This disables the mismatch issue.

Ron
