The battery is recently new within the last few months. Thought it was the replacement adapter/charger, so I bought a new one. Same problem still exists. The light next to the port where you plug in the adapter comes on. But there are 3 lights on the front of laptop that always come on ( labeled with power symbol, lightning bolt (lightscribe?) & cd/ disc symbol), that don't light up. When you press the power button, nothing happens. I used the computer, it was working fine. I shut it down properly, put away in the case, pulled it out 4 hours later and it would not turn on. Any suggestions or thoughts?
*Take out the battery,
*Remove main supply,
*Hold power button down for 30 secs,
*Put only power supply in, do not put battery in
*Turn laptop on
*Put the battery in.

Dear,
Try pressing the CAPS LOCK. If CAPS LOCK is responding then it is surely your inverter.
It is a known problem with the nx5000 series laptop.
The FAN switches off because Intel SpeedStep which is absolutely normal.
I faced and solved at least 6 - 7 such problems on different nx5000 laptops
If CAPS LOCK is not responding then its your motherboard.
Good Luck and Regards

This was an odd one to fix. I found apon opening the machine that the heat sink was completly blocked with fluff (Picture Uploaded) so I removed it and cleaned it up.
I then removed the CPU, cleaned that of thermal paste and cleaned the pins with some universal lubricant (WD40 is fine, just make sure it's not wet when you put it back in!). I then applied new thermal paste (Get this at Maplin in UK) and re-assembled the unit.
Before powering on I removed the motherboard battery for 30 seconds with the mains power supply removed and the main laptop battery removed. The motherboard battery on this model was located under the WiFi card in the RAM bay and can be accessed by removing just the ram cover.
I then inserted the battery and the PSU power and switched it on. It booted to the CMOS screen where I updated the correct time and date, saved and rebooted it and it has been fine since.
I doubt this is a power supply error as the voltage output was correct when tested. Also this supply did not have the data pin (often found in Dell machines to tie you to replacing the PSU with Dell branded ones only) so it wasn't a data error.
Another odd thing is that when it had the flashing light error it would not turn on with just the battery installed even though the battery tested as fully charged. Apon repair the battery runs it just fine on its own.
You could just try removing the battery, PSU and motherboard battery (under the WiFi card) for 30 seconds to see if this fixes it, as it may do. I would then go to HP's website and see if there is a BIOS update under the 'Drivers & Downloads' section for your model. This could be a BIOS error that may have been corrected since your model was released or last updated. I am unable to perform this task at the moment as this is a customers machine and has a password. I shall however advise them to do this.
If you do need to strip it, I should warn that the plastic bezel above the keyboard is a bugger to remove. Make sure you have removed all of the screws under the battery as two of these secure it. Then prise up each end with a thin flat blade screwdriver or Stanley blade and push it up and towards the screen with some effort to unclip it.
Hope this helps some of you out, please rate and let me know.
Phill.
