Try new batteries in the remote and confirm that the settings are correct and that you haven't accidently selected no caption option.

SOURCE: lockup/crashes

There is no part in this set called a text board. I suspect the person that gave you this information meant the wow board. it is a plug in board that is near the far right of the chassis as you face the back and is about 2" by 4". if you remove this board the and it is the cause of the problem the set will work but will have no sound.

SOURCE: can't find closed caption

I believe page #48 on this link will help, though I am unsure of the type of tv you have. I can only say that I hope this helps. If not, you could try to google your tv and see if you can find an online manual that tells you how to turn on the CC feature. Good luck! Sincerely, Der Strom

How do you remove closed captioning? I have a 4yr old 50" plasma tv. Today the captioning just popped up and I can't figure out how to get rid of it

Hi

1* Use the CAPTION button repeatedly to select Caption Off, EZ Mute, or On.
* EZ Mute shows the selected captions option (if available on program) when the TV sound is muted.
2* Press the ENTER button to save.

Caption Tips

* Not all TV broadcasts include closed caption signals.

* Sometimes TV stations broadcast four different caption signals

on the same channel. By selecting CC 1 to CC 2, you

can choose which signal you view. CC 1 is usually the signal

with the captions, while Another mode might show demonstration

or programming information.

* Your TV might not receive caption signals normally in the following
situations.
OK.

Dark shaded square area in center of tv picture - how do I get rid of it? I am at mothers and she has what looks like a 36 inch tabletop JVC tube tv probably about 10 plus years old. not able to remove tv...

I have heard complaints from some of my customers, “There is a black/gray box on my television, but I can still see the picture around the edges”. This happens to all of us and is a common symptom and can be fixed very easily. If you have a black/grey box in the picture, on the older sets they would be perfectly centered on the screen, but, on some of the newer sets the black/grey box can be in different places and can be different sizes on different sets.
Most likely the Text mode is on in the Closed Caption menu.
The way you can test if it is in Closed Caption Text mode, when you change the channels, the black/ gray box will not appear right away but it will take some time to show back up. This is a very good indication that the Closed Caption “Text” mode is turned on for your television. It just needs to be turned off.
To turn off the closed caption go into your menu and turn off closed caption (CC). This will vary from manufacture to manufacture; it should be in the options menu.
I have seen on some sets like Mitsubishi puts it under the Video adjustments button. So you may have to look around for it.
You may even have a CC button on your remote, which will make it much easier. Just press the CC button until the display indicates that CC it is off.
I hope that this tip helps you and that you enjoy your televisions for years to come.
