Have an HP Deskjet F2180 and it will not scan. Item placed on glass as instructed and scan button depressed, but nothing happens. Printer otherwise working perfectly.
Same here. It prints and copies well enough, but I press the scan button and nothing happens. I open up the scanner settings on my computer, click Scan and nothing happens. Sometimes the On button on the printer flashes, but that's about it. Anyone know how to get it to work?

Do not place any paper on the scanner and open the lid and press scan button and check if the light glows and moves forward and backward. If the light does not glow its a problem with scanner light.
Also try to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers.
You probably want to go to one of the "how to scan without using HP software" or "how to scan with Solution Center". Choose the option that matches your operating system.
I was having the same trouble. All you do is turn the printer on and make sure there is paper in the tray for it to print onto (obviously), then lift the lid (keeping it open) and place the piece of paper you are scanning onto the glass. The side you want to scan needs to be face down in the bottom left hand corner. Then instead of pressing the scan button (which did nothing for me either) press the black or colour button that is above it, depending on whether you want to scan in colour or just black and white. Worked for me! Hope it works for you too.
I would suggest that you remove all HP software that came with the printer through Add/Remove programs in Control panel. After that is finished, you can download the latest drivers by following the instructions below.
To download the drivers you can go here. When the page opens you will need to choose your operating system. Then, from the Drivers section I would choose the full feature driver. Once you click that, you will see a Install Now button that will allow you to immediately install the software and/or a Download Only button that will allow you to download the file for later installation.
Either option will have a link below them that says View Directions which can be used to get step by step instructions for installation of the drivers.
Hope this helps. Please remember to rate this information.
