I'm running 2 Mac's both using MacOS 10.4.8. The scanner was connected to one Mac via FireWire. Then I connected my second computer to the scanner via USB. (The scanner has both ports). It worked once. The next time I wanted to scan on any computer I get the Message that it can't find the scanner. Something got screwed up when I used the USB port. Does anyone know what I should do? Is there any kind of software out there that can help?
I disconected everything and uninstalled the scannig software (SilverFastSE) and reinstalled it & rebooted & reconnected and nothing helps.
If anyone can help it would be appreeciated.

This scanner is Fast SCSI . It was made in 2001. You will need a card in your Mac for a SCSI interface. The cost of the card and scsi cable, if your Mac will accept one, will probably exceed the cost of a newer, high performance scanner. Time to move on? (Umax were not the greatest scanners even when they were made. Umax was a cheaper brand with mediocre software. So how will you get the image into the Mac once you have a connection? Power PC (OS 9) Mac software will not run on OS X.)
there are some Firewire to SCSI and USB to SCSI adapters that should work- check www.hamrick.com.
Ed Hamrick has written Vuescan scanning software that will work with the 2100XL, windows 7 and many of these adpters
I just told someone else this solution...KILL the SCSI junk...I had nothing but trouble with it with my Mac....I got a Ratoc Firewire to UltraSCSI Converter...to solve the regular SCSI to ultra SCSI problem...I also bought an adapter....It works great...no need for a SCSI card...or a driver...you just plug directly into your firewire port!
If anyone can help me with my TA adapter startup problem...I'll be thrilled!
1. connect the scanner usb cable to your desk top
2. install your scanner driver (cd of your scanner) to your computer.
3 as you put the cd in your desk top computer it will give you guide line (just follow it)
