I had the same problem except I had more than one sensor causing concern. I have repaired it successfully by recalibrating the sensors. This is really easy to do, search the internet for the procedure and go to your local camera supply and buy a "gray card". I purchased an 8" X 10" gray card for $7.99 cut it in half so I could cover all of the sensors and pushed the reset button. It works perfectly now. Just a note on cleaning the underside of the glass; I did this first and gained nothing. Recalibrating the sensors was the answer. The appliance parts site and Bosch want $50.00 for the same gray card; they call it a kit, but its two 8x10's and a 4x4.
The underside of the glass had some dirt and I cleaned it with a towel only. It works much better, especially with the overhead light from the range hood on. I may take it apart and clean it with alcohol or windex again. Irritating, especially when the top costs over 3200$.
Hi im gerbee, very complicated the all the elec stove coz very sensetive the sensor, try to remove the ceramic glass, check all the screw at the side of cooktop before removing the glass then clean it the pcv control sensor using an alcohol,& clean the clean also under the glass, dust & oily surface coz of the poblem of the sensor.

Hi - Not a problem or a solution, sorry; just curious to know how you like this cooktop? I've seen it advertised, and I thought the shape looks interesting - it can be used in a corner or along a regular counter, right?
Many thanks!
Not really a comment, rather a similar question
I've got the same gaggenau cooktop and it has neither worked reliably. As long as gaggenau has sold the board as a retail part I spent a lot of money buying one ever second year . But now Gaggenau has definitely stopped the retail parts for this cooking top and just let the customer alone, without any alternative solution. That's the way they do in Germany. So a friend of mine tried the solution proposed by Slinger5586 but got no success with the old command with a reset button. I've got another command but without reset button. Is somebody knowing how to recalibrate the sensors with this command? I'll be very grateful for a solution because otherwise I have no other possibility than to rebuild this part of my kitchen since there is no other cooking top fitting in the gaggenau hole.
Many thanks in advance. Corine
updated - Hurricane Sandy (2012) and the power outage fried the logic board - got a new board and it was a -2 version of the board. Looked the same but firmware or something else changed. Cost about 600$ and the thing works great. No more problems with the light sensors. Gald I can still get parts because this unit is irreplacable unless i get new granite. There is NO electric cooktop that fits in the hole or an expanded version of the hole. No one makes a glass cooktop that large.
i did find the calibration instructions online for the older -1 version of the board. It probably would have worked.
Hi kova3 - I've got a similar problem with the cooktop since more than a year :-(( No way to find any instructions or a new board here in Germany. It would be great if you could tell me where you found the calibration instructions and also where you got the new board. Many thanks!
SInce I posted this, i had a power surge and it fried the logic board. I ordered a new board (approx 690$) and it was a REV-2 board. Seems they fixed the problem and it works great like it should have in hte first place. WOrks grat with overhead halogen lights adn bright LED's. Works great in bright sunlight too.
