When I turn the camera on it says"write protect" on it and won't allow me to shoot photos

  • chadbentley Mar 10, 2008

I too have received the 'Write Protected' message. Also, when I try to view my pictures, it says "No Picture." I'm pretty bummed out about it because I have been traveling through SE Asia for a few weeks now and had over 300 pictures on it.

Some have mentioned a tab on the memory card but I have the 'Olympus xD picture card' and there is no tab, so I've ruled that one out. The Olympus doesn't really have too many options and I'm afraid to go exploring and cause more problems at the off chance that there will be a solution and I can retrieve my pictures.

I get the message 'protected card' Next trick?

There are several possible causes for "memory card locked/protected", "memory card error", or "no memory card". The most common cause is having the tiny slide switch on the side of the card in the wrong position. The second most common is trying to use a 4GB or higher SDHC card with an older camera made before SDHC format came out. There are also other common causes if the above didn't help, with troubleshooting steps for this problem listed here.

Problem with the Olympus FE-115 Digital Camera my

Unfortunately, the picture error message means that the image been modified such that the camera can't read it. It is possible that the camera thinks the picture was taken by another camera. Since the picture is still good when you check it with the computer, it hasn't been damaged. Archive the picture and make sure to back it up after it goes on the computer. (If the computer couldn't view it, then you'd need some sort of file recovery software and might not get the entire image back.)

Manuals for the FE-115 are available from the Olympus site: http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_archived_product_details.asp?id=1227&fl=8 .

I hope this helps.

Every time I turn on my camera a message appears on the screen that says "write protect". What is "write protect" and how do I get rid of the message?

1) It could be your camera has write protect switched on. Go through your camera's menu and look for picture protect and remove it.

2) Your SD card could be write protected. Take out the SD card and check, there's probably a sliding notch on the left hand side, move the to write enable.

Two buttons flash and nothing comes up; screen is blank

The problem you are describing is a problem with battery connectivity in the camera. Following are the instructions to send your camera to Olympus for service.

http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/cpg_servicerepair.asp

Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $51 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.

Need olympus master for FE-115

To learn about the new and free version of Olympus Master 2 software go to:
For Windows:
http://downloads.olympus-europa.com/OM2/win/OM211Setup.exe
For MAC:
Olympus Master 2.11: http://downloads.olympus-europa.com/OM2/Mac/OM211EN.dmg
This software replaces all previous versions of Camedia Master 4.x and Olympus Master 1.x.
(http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/oima_softwareMaster.asp Click on 'Free Download' to register your email address to receive an email containing a link to download either the Windows or Mac version).

That sounds as if it may be a repair issue with the chip inside the camera that controls image processing. You may want to call Olympus Customer Service to discuss repair policy. Their telephone number is 800-622-6372 option 2 and then option 3.

My videos come without sound

Unfortunately, the FE-115 does not have audio capability (and the video is rather grainy as well). All my youtube videos to date have been recorded with the FE-115.

"Write Protect" on Olympus FE-115

Check the manual to discover how write protect is achieved with your particular camera/card Some card rely on a silver foil stick[Smart Media] other have a switch. Compact flash rely on a control on the camera. So you will have to have a good browse through the manual - do not forget that there is a Full manual in PDF on the software disk.

Screen is blank

You tell me that you tried new batteries. Have you tried a set of NiMH batteries? They are the best for digital cameras. Please try a set, preferably ones rated 2200 or higher. If this doesn't help, the lens could be jammed. Hang onto the batteries though, because they are rechargeable and can be used in anything that takes AA batteries.
