Memory card won't format

Every time I turn my camera on, the message reads "memory card error." I have followed the instructions in the manual, which suggests reformatting twice after turning the camera off if after the first try fails. No luck. We've spent money on a couple of different memory cards, both reputable. Doesn't make a difference. What could be the problem?

Most likely one of the pins on the compact flash connector is bent, not allowing the card to be recongnized correctly - Am now fixing such a problem for a friend

When i turn on my camera it says the memory card needs formatting i follow the instructions but it doesnt work and keeps saying to format the memory card. this happens over and over and i cannot take...

To understand the photo loss situation, consider a scenario: You format a memory card in Digital Camera, and start to capture some pictures. However, while capturing pictures, your camera shuts down due to low battery. Now, after recharging battery, when you try to access those photograph on the card, you receive the following error message on camera screen:

The Card requires formatting: Additionally, the camera is unable to capture any new photographs.

The main cause for the above error message is corruption of memory card due to conking of battery while a read/write operation was running.

These memory card needs to be formatted before you save any new pictures. It is always a good practice to take backup of card and format it before use. This enables you to fight with any damage done to the memory card and to erase the old data saved on the card. However, the probability of card getting corrupted again (after you have saved new data) still exists.

First try formating with an external SD Card reader connected at PC and test it.

Hi - I am getting an error message when i switch on my Sony Cybershot dsc t9 saying access and then it flashes format error C13.01 - can you advise how to resolve?

It might be due to a bad contact of the placed memorycard.

1. Pull the memorycard out and in the camera several times and retry.
2. If not OK, format the card in the camera. If that does not work, format it in the computer.
3. Try another memorycard and recheck.

I have just bought a EOS 500D camera and I must mention am completely new to digital cameras. Why does the instruction manual advise me to 'format' the memory card? Thanks for your help

Reading the manual is the greatest way to learn about your new camera however sometimes the terminology (new language) can be more of a challenge. Okay to address your question the "new" SD (secure digital) memory card has a little switch on the side I'll include a diagram so you can see what position this switch needs to be in. Being new the camera or your instructions are asking you to format the memory card to clean the surface and make it ready to properly communicate with your cameras "firmware" (that's software for a camera) Formatting a memory card should be done after each download of pictures to a computer, if the memory card is new or if the memory card was used in another camera. Hope this was a help

Error message Built in memory full. Also won't read memory card.

You need to format the internal memory with no card in the camera. Then, you need to format the memory card in the camera.

Only stores to internal memory not memory card

1. Go into the camera menu and find "reset"...follow the on-screen instructions. 2. With no card in the camera, format the internal memory.
3.Don't wait for a message...format the card in the camera (never in the computer).

Cannot find instructions in manual for Nikon Coolpix S210 on how to delete ALL photos from memory disk. It will let me delete one at a time but I want to wipe the memory card clean. Thanks for any and all...

These instructions are from the Instruction Manual of the Coolpix S 210 and need to be carried out within the Set-Up Menu.

Refer Page 19:

Removing Memory Cards
Before removing memory cards, turn the camera off
and confirm that the power-on lamp is off. Open the
battery-chamber/memory card slot cover and press the
card in 1 to partially eject the card 2. The card can
then be removed by hand.
B Formatting Memory Cards
If the message at right is displayed, the memory card must be
formatted before use (A110). Note that formatting permanently
deletes all pictures and other data on the memory card. Be sure
to make copies of any pictures you wish to keep before formatting
the memory card.
Use the multi selector to choose Yes and press k. The
confirmation dialog will be displayed. To start formatting, choose
Format and press k.
Do not turn the camera off or open the battery-chamber/memory card slot cover until
formatting is complete.
• The first time you insert the memory cards used in other devices into the COOLPIX S210, be sure to
format them using this camera (A110).

Refer Pg 110:

 Format Memory/m Format Card
Use this option to format the internal memory or a memory card.
Formatting the Internal Memory
To format the internal memory, remove the memory
card from the camera.
The Format memory option appears in the setup
menu.
Formatting a Memory Card
When the memory card is inserted in the camera, the
Format card option appears in the setup menu.

Hope this helps

Card error

Try turning off the camera. While it's off remove and reinsert the memory card. If the same message appears, you should re-format the memory card. CAUTION: Formatting the memory card will delete anything on it. Copy the files off of it before formatting.
