I have recently started receiving errors when I restart my PC (TrayApp.msi is not found) and the PC continuously attempts to find/install the software. I have found that this is due to HP Image Zone trying to start. It has been 6 months since I installed my printer and I have never had any problem with it before. I found an HP link for the issue that says I should uninstall then re-install the image zone (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericDocument?docname=c00811375&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN). However, when I look in add/remove programs, there is a crud load of software packages that look like they are for HP image/print/docs, but nothing that is called HP Image Zone so it is unclear what to uninstall. I found another utility on the HP web pages that will remove the Image Zone (and all my printer drivers too?), but it says it only works for version 4.2. A bunch of my HP stuff in add/remove says 5.3 (but I am not sure that is what I should be looking at). When I try to pull the msi files off my install disc, or try to use my install disc, I get messages saying my current installation is more current. Then everything exits so that I can not proceed. Questions: - What exactly should I un-install before re-installing the printer software? How do I uninstall HP Image Zone? - Any guess why this is happening (will I still see the issue after the re-install?). This is a home business PC with virus protection (no issues detected), so there is less chance of undesired junk being on the machine. PC is an a1310n running XP media center Printer is an HP1315 PSC all-in-one Thank you for any help
Is TrayApp necessary for the operation of a computer? I keep getting this pop-up and I can not get rid of it. If I need to install it , I get no information how to do so. Is seems to me that it is some kind of virus. Is it?

Hi ChaBair, Image zone is HPs attempt to get its customers to store, share and backup images on their servers: http://www.hp.ca/portal/hho/ize/ I would try reinstalling the installation CD again making sure the printer is off until it prompts you. This time when you get to the part where you can select what components to install document the program names just in case you do have to manually uninstall later. Anyway reinstall and when prompted connect your printer. Also before you actually try to use the printer make sure you go to the HP site and download/apply any patches there may be. This should fix your error problem and give you a good idea which of the ancillary programs to uninstall if you later desire to do that. This didn?t 100% answer your question but I believe it will in the end achieve what you?re looking for. If it doesn?t work let us know and we?ll go from there. Also please don?t forget to rate this posting when we?re done.

We can go down two paths, we can try just dealing with the ?trayapp.msi? error at boot up or if you want to uninstall the HP software we can try that. I would suggest that we go the route of just getting rid of the error and seeing if we break anything else. Anyway let us know which way you want to go and then if you haven?t already haven?t done so backup your data just in case?...
Once you let us know which route you want to go I?ll let you know what we need to continue working on this.

Hi Tomj23,
Thanks for the response and sorry for my late feedback.
The problem I am having is that I can not do the install from the CD. I put in my CD that came with the PSC1315. When it autoruns, it begins at step "1. Checking System". It immediately pops a window that says "A more recent version of this product is already installed on your computer" and exits. I never have any opportunity to interact with the installer when I put in the CD.. I just see that message and I am forced to "Finish".
When the PC boots and it prompts for a TrayApp.msi to install from, if I browse to the file on my install disk (Setup\TrayApp\TrayApp.msi), I get an error that says "not a valid installation package for the product TrayApp"
I have gone to "Start"->"All Programs"->HP->PSC All-In-One 1310 Series -> uninstall and gone through uninstall/reinstall of the printer drivers, but that did not change anything wrt the error I receive. I even get the "a more current version already exists" message after I uninstall and reboot.
Any other pointers you can think of greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Mine is simply saying when I try to Transfer images from scanner, the following error message comes up;
"An error occured communicating with the scanning device. Please ensure that the scanning device is connected properly and try again." All my connection checked and in correct order. Please help me with the link to resolve this issue. My email is [email protected]" thanks Kamran Hye from London
