Trying to repair water dispensor

Maytag side by side refrigerator 2 1/2 yrs old. water dispensor just stoped. I took out filter even though light didn't say to be replaced and put in bypass, but still no water. water seems to come up to filter, but can't tell if it goes on.

    the crushed ice,cubed ice, or the water dose not work.

    Water and ice dispensor just stopped working. Ice maker is making ice.

    my water quit working because the line froze in the fridge i left the door open for 5min. and started working again.

    I have same problem, but in addition the light is constantly on as long as door is shut. Initially it sounded as an alarm was set, as the light was turned on and off for a few times, and since I have not been able to get ice/water. Switch board seems to work, as I can change between water/ice and I can lock/unlock the switches. It also produces Ice, so no issue with water inlet valve, I think.

Hi, there is a micro-switch at the filter which shuts off the supply and operation while the filter is out of the unit. That switch is still open, so the dispenser thinks you are still replacing the filter. Try taking the filter out and putting it back in. Make sure any locking mechanism is fully engaged. In the meantime, I will see if I can find the service manual for your unit.

I would not advise using bleach. I would disconnect the pipe from both ends and blow down it, either by mouth or air gun to ensure of no blockages. You should poor away at least 10 cups of water after changing filter to ensure clean fresh water.

The common connection between the two starts at the water fill valve. I have found also that the filter (water) if clogged, will prevent water flow to both. Change the filter first, cheapest and eaisest.

Our Maytag icemaker stopped making ice suddenly after we changed the filter. It dispenses water only.
Does the water have a good flow ? Did you try putting the old filter back in ? Never change the filter just because a little red light comes on . Only replace when the ice cubes get small or the water dispensor flow gets slow . I have found new filters that were bad . Distributors make a lot of money for filters just because of that little red lite . Not just maytag , but all other brands also . Try pouring about 1/2 cup of water into icemaker . If it dumps the cubes but doesn't fill , replace the water valve . If it doesn't dump , and holds the cubes for a long period of time , replace the icemaker . Also , you may need to clean the coils of dust , lint , etc....

Put the old filter back on , if water was fine . You never change filter just because a light comes on telling you to . The change filter light comes on after time or usage of dispensor .( Good way for manufacturers to make extra money ) . Change the filter only when water flow slows from dispensor .

GE side by side refrigerator: water/ice dispensor
I bought a brand new smartwater replacement filter and after a very short time, my water stopped coming through the door.. took out the new replacement filter and inserted a brand new one .. problem solved.. apparently some of the g.e. smartwater filter replacement cartridges don't have the high enough two plastic inserts which are attached to them at the top of the filter when you screw them on... if you have taken your cartridge in and out a few times, i think it wears down the plastic so it doesn't fit properly and won't put up whatever it is supposed to push up to make the water come through.. I personally think this is a g.e. problem with the replacement filters...

each dispensor is a little different, but youll need to hold down a button(perhaps even a combonation of 2) for3 seconds to "reset " the filter indicator.
