I have a creative zen m 30gb. I have to reboot my zen a lot of times and then it goes into the menu. While playing music, it freezes, and then I have to start rebooting it again. I reloaded firmware to a newer version, but that didn't really help. I saw in the solution below that you could have a hard drive "dead". Is it possible to replace a hard drive? If yes, then where can I do it and is it worth it or should I just get a new mp3 player? Thanks

I have the same problem. My Zen Vision M froze in play mode and wouldn't turn off or react to any action I tried taking. I tried resetting it twice, but the reloading gets stuck about 75% through and will probably run the battery out.

I have the same problem. Mine crashed ages ago, so I resetted it and now all it does is rebuild about one third of the way and doesn't go any further, after a while it'll have another go and get to the same point, then it comes up with "Firmware Error" or something like that. It also makes a weird whirring noise when it gets to the point it's stuck at. It's really annoying, 'cause I have a years warranty and it didn't even break half way into the year, but I've lost my receipt, so I can't return it. I downloaded a firmware upgrade, but my computer's useless and doesn't like new applications and never even installed the Zen applications properly, so I installed all the Creative software into my Dad's laptop, but it won't install, because it can't read the hardware player properly due to it being broken, so when I go to try and upgrade the firmware, it won't read the MP3 player as being plugged in. So frustrating. :(

My Zen is frozen and I've hit the reset button many times. It will not turn back off so how do I take the battery off to reset it since the reset button isn't working?

There's a little area at the bottom that says, reset, you take a thumbtack, and just pop it in! It will be back to working condition without losing files with no problems!

If it makes a pining noise inside then it is possible that the hard drive has died. Also You can take the battery out, Hold the on switch to the on position, put the battery back in - and the recovery screen will show up... THere are a number of things you can try there including reformatting the drive...

If a reset does not work using the reset hole, then try this: First, back up all of your music and do this: Turn off the player and disconnect it from the computer. Then press and hold the play/puse button and turn it on simultaneously. The player should be in recovery mode. Scroll down and select format (all) and let it format. Then reload all of music back onto your player and it should work like new. Hope this helps!

  1. Detach the player from the PC if it is connected, and turn off the player.
  2. Press and hold the Play button while powering on the player.
  3. When the player displays the Creative logo, release the Play button
  4. Select Format (All) and select Yes to format the player.

I Recently bought a Zen, and it works great. The only problem I found was that it freezes itself from time to time, and the best solution to this problem is on the bottom of your Zen, there is a very small Reset hole. With a needle or a toothpick, gently stick it in, and push lightly. This will allow the Zen to unfreeze, and return back into it's regular mode. All your files will be saved, and kept on to the Zen, so you don't need to worry about losing any of your files.

Any additional help, I'll be glad to answer!
