My iriver h10 was working fine after downloading new music onto it for a couple weeks. recently if i try to play the music it says that " this music has expired or failed to have license." this has happened more than once and i cannot figure out why it is saying that. does it have to do with using the music provider, napster, to download music onto it or what?
Yes, It has to do with using napster.
When you purchase songs form napster or most other online digital music vendors, the files that you download have digital rights management or DRM for short.
In other words the recording companies have limited your rights to use of the files in some way becasue they are worried that you may go and give them to all your friends and they will have lower profits due to the resulting lost sales.
There is a license associated with your digital music file. While there are different license schemes, one sure thing is that you can not play the music on a player that does not support DRM. Luckily the H10 is a Media Transfer Protocol (MTP) player, which means that it does support DRM. You must, however, use the right software to transfer the files; Software that will transfer license information to the player.
I think Napster can do this itself but I have never used the service, so I can not be sure. The iriver plus software or Windows Media Player 10 and above should also work if Napster is not performing this task properly.
I may also be that you must refresh the licenses for the DRM music files on a regular basis or they will expire. Hopefully using any of the above mentioned transfer programs will accomplish this task.
Can you still play the songs on your computer? If not then there may be a more serious issue with your licenses.
If you see all of these DRM restrictions as the rediculious hassle that they are, the you should know that there are ways to strip this information from your music files, but it's probably against the rules to go into that here. You should be able to find them if you are interested and willing to look hard enough.
I hope you get them working properly.

Best way to use the H10 20gb is by creating a directory on your hard drive with your desired mp3 format files. Use ripping and encoding software with your existing audio cds. Connect the h10 to the PC via the UMS trick (see this website).
Using a file directory on your pc, drag and drop the mp3 files from your pc to the MUSIC file folder on the h10. Install and run the EASY10 playlist creator software on your pc to organize the new files on your iRiver player. Disconnect the USB connection and enjoy!
sounds like a hard drive problem...
need to see if you can still access your hard drive through the UMS trick
For 20 GB MTP Models
Make sure your H10 is turned off and disconnected from the computer.
Poke the "reset" button with a paperclip.
Turn on the hold switch (so that you don't accidentally turn the H10 on all the way).
Plug the H10 into your computer.
Turn on the H10 while holding the "O" button.
You
will see the message "Emergency Connection" if you have done everything
correctly. You can now let go of the "O" button.
If yes, try formatting the H10 hard drive, reload the latest iriver h10
firmware, and transfer your music files directly to the h10 music
folder with Windows file manager.
Download and run Easyh10 free playlist maker, to build and save a playlist to your player.
try bringing your music up as a file normally it works cause with a lot of devices that's the only way you can send them so bring your music up as files then open your i river as files then all you have to to do is copy and paste

When I frist drag and dropped pictures onto iriver, nothing showed up. With more playing around, I discovered, frustratingly!..that I can download pictures onto WMP and sync it with my iriver that way. That is the only solution I have found, even though it seems possible with the drag n'drop!
