I have two laptops: XP op. syst. on one, and Vista op syst on the

Other one. I had original XP computer operating through DL-524 wireless router with WEP encryption. I cannot get the Vista computer to connect through DL-524, even when password entered for WEP encryption. Can this be done with Vista computer?

Uh oh. I just saw this last week :-). Are you running some sort of firewall on the Vista **** machine? We had to disable ours and everything worked fine. It was a CA Assosiates firewall, but IIRC the customer couldn't even get the Windows one to work. He had to completely remove that portion of the software, not just disable it, because it kept turning back on.

I would try using the hex value generated from your password by your WEP enabled router instead of the password itself. Windows has always been a little funny with WEP and I've always had better luck using the hex value my router generates.

I have di-524 d-link wireless router, my router not giving me wireless connections

If you connect the computer to the router with the cable , does it work?
If yes then the wired connection is working.

What is the Operating system on the laptop or the wireless computer ?

If it is XP then in the bottom right hand corner you will find Wireless network connection ( looks like 1 computer monitor). Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is windows Vista, then in the bottom right hand corner you will find 2 computer monitor icon. Use that icon to connect to the wireless network.
If it is Windows 98/ME/2000 then use the adapter utility to connect to the wireless network.
For MAC you will see the AIRPORT icon at the top.

Check the wireless settings of the router first . Make sure that you have all the wireless settings of the router. If you are not sure about the settings, then open the router set up and check the settings.

How i make my dl-524 wireless router to secure

To secure the wireless network , you will need to access the router set up.
Do you have any computer connected to the router with the ethernet cable.
If you do not have the computer connected to the router, then connect one computer to the router.
Do not try this on the wireless computer.

I have standard connection-adsl to d-link dl-524 then cable to one pc, and wireless to laptop. When I use laptop, it is very slow and often freezes up My desk top has vista and lap top has windowXP. ...

Wireless is slow by its nature ... wireless operates about 10 while wire runs at 100. Wireless also less secure.

Speed up your laptop immediately by connecting it with eithernet - if you have the port to do that.

How do i connect dlink dl-524 to pc without i want to set up lapt

You should be able to download the software/driver package as well as manual from the DLink website. Just click on the Support link and lookup the model # of your router. You will need to know which operating system you are running in order to download the correct package. Once downloaded you can install by following the onscreen directions. Hope this helps.

I have a D-Link AirPlus DI-524 Wireless Router. I have no problem connecting the computers in my home that have windows XP installed. We have replaced two of the computers in the house with laptops that...

I have had exactly this problem and after MUCH work downloading new drivers for the Vista Pcs and updating the operating system in the DI-524 found that the 524 does not operate well with Vista. A new DI-624 integrated well with Vista, and installed with no problems. Good luck!

D-link DI-524 wireless - lan network connection

Yep. Vista sucks :-)

In the vista machine, you have to turn on a whole bunch of options. Right click Network, hilghlight properties and left click and it opens up Network and Sharing Center. Down at the bottom, you have a list of options. Start by turning on the options you need: File Sharing, Public File sharing, Printer Sharing etc. I'm pretty sure it's already done in the XP machine, but if not, check there too.

It should start to show network files between machines.

Can't connect desktop with wireless card to DL-524. It reads no network available. I have the same computer connected with a cable to the router. My son's laptop will connect to the router.

DL 524..what is that part? And you may need to 'see' that wireless card, from the system side of the control panel first..may not automatically engage with it.
