Is it making clunking noises when it tries to pull the ink cartridges to the middle? Or grinding noises?

Testimonial: "Right on the money. Fly it!"

  • J Grant Jun 09, 2012

I had an old lexmark and an old canon that did this type of thing...fly it and get a new one...even if you could get that spring back where it's supposed to go, the alignment of the print heads will be messed up forever...Sorry to say, just take it out back and shoot it. It's also likely that there was a plastic "retainer" that held the belt on which slides the cartridges back and forth...this part often breaks and again...useless.

Error 1200

The problem could be due to a communication failure between one of the printheads (cartridges) and the All-In One (AIO) or by a short in one if the printheads. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge issues:

  1. Make sure the printer is on.
  2. Open the printer cover. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-In-One is busy. Note: If the carrier does not automatically move to the center, turn off the printer or unplug the printer from the power source and then carefully slide the carrier to the center.
  3. Remove both cartridges from the carrier.
  4. Close the printer cover.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box behind the printer where the power cord is plugged in to, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reinsert one cartridge first. Close the printer cover and check for any errors.
  7. If no error appears, reinsert the other cartridge. Close the printer cover.
  8. Replace whichever cartridge is causing the error to appear with a new genuine Lexmark cartridge. Try to print a document again to verify that the problem is fixed.

Used x4270 .no cd to download. list of printers does not inclued 4270. having problems with error 1200. took out old cartlidge and don't know how to put them back. have printer connected to computer...

Try to fix the 1200 error first. The error indicates that the cartridge carrier has stalled. Please refer to this article to fix the problem: 1200 Error Message on a Lexmark X4250/X4270/F4270 All-In-One. Once your cartridge carrier is functioning properl, re-insert your cartridges - How to Install Ink Cartridges In Lexmark X4200 Series AIO.

You can download the Lexmark X4270 driver by visiting the Lexmark website at http://bit.ly/gKXn7F. Select your operating system, download and execute the file. Follow the instructions on your computer screen.

For your scanning concern, especially when scanning documents, you will need the Lexmark OCR scan software to do the job. The scan software is available only on the installation disc that came with your printer. If you lost the disc, please contact Lexmark Technical Support Center for additional assistance.

Error #1200

Turn off power to the printer and unplug it from the back of the printer.

Insert the power cord back into the printer. You will hear some clicks and motors moving. Pull out the cord again when this happens.

Open the cartridge bay by pulling the face forward and lifting the bay door up. The cartridge carousel most likely will not come to the center.

trying physically pulling the carousel to the middle. (NOT BY THE RIBBON CABLE) If you can not pull it to the middle push it far right as possible. Listen for a click.

After pushing to the right and hearing a click you should then be able to pull the carousel towards the middle easily. Remove the ink cartridges and power up the printer again.

You will receive an error along the lines of black cartridge missing. Open the bay, insert the cartridges, close the bay.

if that doesnt help...
remove the shell from the black base, clean the goop from under the ink cartridges, put silicon on the bars after cleaning with alcohol, grease the gears sparingly, put it back together,

good luck

My message window shows error 1200. What does this mean? I cannot find a solution in my trouble shooting guide

The 1200 error is caused by a cartridge carrier stall. This can happen if:
  • The print cartridges are not snapped in correctly.
  • The encoder strip is out of place.
  • A foreign object is blocking the cartridge carrier's path.
Try this first step to correct it
Turn off power to the printer and unplug it from the back of the printer.

Open the bay, insert the cartridges, close the bay. if the error still persists Could be a timing belt issue, gearing or a jam, etc.
Typically, Dells are Lexmarks...

Dell 942 carrier jam

This morning I replaced the cartridges in the Dell 942 printer, they jammed to the left which made a loud grinding noise and the cartridge jam error came on.

I solved the problem by turning the printer on with the top up which moved the cartridges to the right a little so I could reach back, push one down a little manually which freed them to move over to the middle.
