Device loses internet every day or so, without any indication. Requires reboot to reestablish internet service. Is this a DHCP renewal issue?

The internet connectivity is lost, even though the server connection is still good to any of the devices connected to it. The only way I know it has lot internet service is by way of Mac's network connection diagnostics, which shows no internet or server, although wifi, wifi settings, network settings and ISP are green.

DHCP Problems

Routers have a built in DHCP server to identify each computer connecting to it so traffic can be routed to the correct computer, if more than 1 computer/device shares the same IP you should get an IP conflict not a DHCP error. Routers also normally give out IP addresses from its pool of IP's sequentially and assigns it to expire in 24 hours, so if you reboot your router turn on 1 device grab an IP and then turn that device off, reboot your router and turn a different device on it will get the same IP, now when you turn the other device back on you have a conflict.
If your router has been reset you have to release and renew IP addresses on all your devices to prevent conflicts.

Not getting net work, dns failed

In a typical home network DNS(domain name service) is provided via your ISP(internet service provider). If you are having an issue with DNS on more than one or all devices connected to your router, unplug the power from both the modem and router for at least 30 seconds. plug the modem power back in and wait about a minute or until the lights are all back on (the activity or link light should flicker). Now plug the router back in and wait for it to sync up to the modem. Test your devices to see if they are working properly now. If they are not try repeating the steps again but wait at least 5 minutes with them both unplugged this should allow for a new dynamic IP to be assigned by your ISP and should hopefully resolve the issue. Some other steps you can try on a given computer are to flush your computer's dns cache by opening a command prompt and typing without quotes "ipconfig /flushdns" this will require elevated rights on Vista and 7. You can also try releasing your DHCP lease by typing "ipconfig /renew" or "ipconfig /release' then "ipconfig /renew" For elevated rights Click the Window Button, All Programs, Accessories, Right Click Command Prompt and click Run As Administrator

My belkin wont keep connection

1. Powercycle your equipment (unplug the power to your router and your modem)
2. Wait 15 seconds then plug equipment back in.
3.If your Modem runs off signal from a tower try and get more signal simply by moving modem closer to a window.
4.Check your connections to the modem and to the router, ensure the wires are plugged all the way in.
5.Using your wireless signal from your computer pc or laptop ensure you have sufficient signal you may have to move closer to the router, once in a while you will be to far from your router to have a good connection.
6. Make sure the ventilation slots on modem and router are not blocked.
7.Check to see how far your modem is away from any electrical equipment your modem should be away at least 3 feet away.
8. If you are able to keep connection directly plugged into your modem from your computer most likely there is an issue with the router, In this case you can always reset your router there may be a configuration error in your router, To reset simply press and hold reset button on the back of the router for approximately 15 seconds or until router restarts, Caution by resetting your router will reset back to factory default and your router will be unsecure once again.
9. When your are disconnected from the internet make sure that the Connection itself isnt still connected if your connection itself is connected and you are unable to get online you may need to renew your ip address. usually your ip address automatically renew's once the router and modem have been powercycled (unplugged and plugged back in) however you may need to manually renew your ip.
10.Windows Xp: Start/Run/CMD and press ok
A.Type ipconfig /release
B.Type ipconfig /renew
Windows Vista/7 Start/All Programs/Accessories/Right click on command prompt and hit run as administrator.
A.Type ipconfig /release
B.Type ipconfig /renew then restart your computer
If you are a Mac user:Here is a link to show you how to renew http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1920 If your continue to get disconnected contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider) Check and ensure that it is not an issue on there end

My router is not getting the wireless signal it says no wireless what do i do to fix this

Are all computers connected to the router affected?
If so, try this first:

  1. Unplug the power to the cable / DSL modem
  2. Connect the power to the router.
  3. Connect a computer to one of the LAN ports of the router.
  4. Restart your computer.
  5. Restore the router to factory defaults. Note: This will remove all previously configured settings.
  6. Once the router has gone through the restore it will then begin the reboot. When the reboot completes plug the power back into your modem.

This addresses a common scenario where the router has been connected to the Internet for an extended period and holds an IP address (DHCP lease) for a longer period of time than your Internet Service Provider (ISP) allows.

This is normal and does not indicate any issue with your Belkin router or ISP.

If the router is located where you cannot easily unplug it, you can restart it using the router's web-based interface. If your DHCP lease time seems to be extremely short, contact your ISP to see if there are other issues on the network.

In certain network scenarios, it may be helpful to turn off all the equipment on your network, and then turn it all back on. Leaving some devices unplugged for up to five minutes can also help. Try unplugging the router, any switches, and any cable or DSL modems. Shut down connected computers. Plug in the cable or DSL modem first.

Plug in the Belkin router second, and wait for the lights to cycle through the startup routine. This prevents another device from taking the DHCP lease. Lastly, start up your computer.

No ip address

Network Card's driver is not installed. Check and install drivers from Device Manager Window.

IP Address can be assigned automatically(through APIPA/DHCP) or Manually.

Automatic:
There is no DHCP server, it takes the Automatic Private IP address(APIPA) or else get it from DHCP server by using "ipconfig" command
Steps: Start>accessories>command prompt>ipconfig /renew

Manually:
Right click on My Network Places> Properties>Right click on Local Area connection>Properties>General Tab>select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)> Properties>General> select "Use the following IP address> assign IP, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS> Press OK Tab.

Our wireless printer loses communication with pc

You are losing contact because you are losing your IP address for the printer. Do this:

Click on start>run>type in "cmd">then go to c:> prompt by typing cd\. Type ipconfig /release then type ipconfig /renew. This will re-establish your IP address for the printer and will not change for 24 hours. If you lose your contact after 24 hours then you need to contact your Internet Service Provider, tell them that your DHCP server is not renewing your IP address. There is nothing else that can be done on your part. The ISP provides the IP address.

Don't forget to rate this solution.
