Microwave comes on when door is opened

We have the same problem as the other guy! When we open the door, the microwave comes ON! The GE repair center said maybe the mother board was malfunctioning. Looks like there would be some sort of safety device on the oven to keep this from happening!!!

The most likely problem is a defective door switch or door switch mount. I have handy information files on safety, disassembly and door switches that will help you or a friend check and repair this problem. If that's not it, then you may have a sticking relay or other problem on the control board. We repair these nationwide for $32.50 total in most cases. You can also find information on this service through the link above. The attachment may be close to yours. Let me know if I can help further!

Ge microwave fan runs when door open

If your microwave continues to be running when you open up the door or when the door is open it could be an issue with the doors interlock switch. A proper functioning door switch provides the power to other components on the microwave and should interrupt power when the microwaves door is opened. The microwave will have to be repaired.

GE Profile microwave PVM1790 starts, what I believe is an internal fan, when I open the door. I sure hope it's not the microwave component frying me.

You probably have a defective door switch, or a bad relay. You are not being microwaved. It would blow its internal fuse to prevent that from happening.

GE microwave (Model JE2160SF03) trips breaker when door opened

Remove the control panel, take pictures of the door switch wiring while they are still connected to the door switches, then remove the door switch assembly. Have someone at the appliance store check each switch and repair the ones that are defective.

I purchased a switch for $7, reinstalled the door switch assembly and the microwave is working fine now.

Advantium - Interior Light Operation While Microwaving

The Advantium 240 oven interior (cavity) light will illuminate anytime the door is open. However, due to the dark tint on the oven door, there is not a light on while cooking since the food would not be visible using the interior lamp.
Food may be viewed during a microwave cycle by pressing the Microwave/Oven Light pad.

One of the Upper Level Speedcook lamps will come on for 5 seconds. The Microwave/Oven Light pad can be pressed up to 5 times during a microwave cooking cycle. The limit of 5 times is to prevent excessive heat on microwave cookware from the Speedcook lamp.

The Advantium 120 oven cavity is illuminated anytime the door is opened and while the unit is in the microwave only mode. As a result it will not have the Microwave/Oven Light pad.

If the light is not operating properly, you will want to have it checked by an authorized service technician. To obtain in or out of warranty repair on Major Appliances, you may call 1-800-GE-CARES (800-432-2737) or schedule service online.

Microwave works with door open

If the top is open, the upper door switch should be open and the high voltage section should not be energized. That's the way it's *supposed* to work. But that buzzing is worrysome! Does the turntable turn during this condition? Does the inside light come on? How about the fan? If not, then I would doubt that it's cooking. If so, some models will do this. It's not uncommon to notice that the fan and light will try to come on for a split second when you shut the door. This would not indicate a problem. It has to do with the timing of the door switches and a replay on the board. If it's still under full warranty, it wouldn't hurt to call a GE-authorized servicer.
