I have removed the base and the four screws around the sides but the rear cover does not come off easily. I am afraid to force it, so there must be a trick or a hidden fastener.
Also what about those two pins that connect the monitor to the base, do they need to be removed?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
SOURCE: Disassembly of case
This is for a Viewsonic VX900. The bottom bezel with the button unclips.Unplug the connector, and put aside. ( Dont pull on the wires) Then there are two screws that are removed, and the grey frame around the monitor comes off next. Then remove the 4 bottom screws, and the two top tiny screws and the LCD comes away from the back. Remove the shielding, and replace your components. Good Luck !!

I RMA'd this probablem as well. They asked the usual questions -- try it alone, check the connections, are you using VGA or DVI... blah blah. Eventually they could give me an RMA.
They have customer support via phone on Sundays in the US, which is nice. Total time from calling to RMA was about 20 minutes.

I have the same problem with my VX922 as do MANY others. The problem seems to be caused by leaking/bulging capacitors on the circuit board. The only solution is to replace the faulty capacitors either on your own (which is fairly easy if you're good with a soldering iron) or send it to Viewsonic and have them fix it.

If there is a flashing led on front of the monitor, that indicates a fault condition.
The flashing light indicates a diagnostic state called protection.
When the Monitor goes on protection there are only two possible causes.
1
The internal circuits are jammed because of electrostatic charges
accumulating on capacitors, or because of a wrong voltage read by the
main chip on your monitor controller board. this started the protection
circuit.
2 The protection circuit detected a wrong voltage or a
broken contact, identified an internal fault and kicked in , starting
the flashing light.
If you are in situation one, then the
monitor will reset just unplugging power cord for one or two hours,
sometimes even minutes.
If you are in situation 2 , then there is an internal fault.
Common
faults that can occurr suddenly are a blown capacitor on power board,
the inverter board powering up backlight lamp has blown, or a fault on
main lcd controller board.
check also the video cable, if the cable
is shorting, or the connector is bad, you can get same flashing state
because of the video cable.
Check connectors, try moving the video cable, and if the cable is not built in, then also try a replacement cable.
If under warranty contact Viewsonic to find out a Viewsonic service point.

I finally figured it out..I used an ipod case opener around the perimeter to unlatch the back from the front. This was actually much easier than an ipod because of its size. The opposite side of the ipod would close and/or bind the tool, this was not the case for this LCD back.
did your monitor have a display issue? turn on and then go off after 2 seconds? Did u end up fixing it?
