Printer says it's out of paper but it isn't

I am trying to print envelopes from the envelop feeder. It says that it is out of paper which it is not. I've tried turning it off, unplugging it, rebooting my computer, cleaning it out and nothing works. Any suggestions?

How do I print an envelope on my Canon MP510?

Envelopes must be fed from the Auto Sheet Feeder. Use either European DL or US Comm. Env. #10-sized envelope.
Important :
  • You need to print from the computer to print on envelopes.
  • Do not use envelopes with embossed or treated surfaces, a double flap, pressure seals, or sticker flaps.
  • Select either DL Env. or Comm. Env. #10 in the printer driver according to the envelope size you are using. If you do not, the address will be printed in the wrong direction.

loadingenvsdiag.gif
1 : Retract the Paper Support.

2 : Load the envelope against the Cover Guide (the right side of the Paper Support).
Load with the front face UP and the rear flaps DOWN on the left.
A maximum of 10 envelopes can be loaded at once.
*1 Printing orientation
*2 Make sure the flaps are folded.
Important : Make sure that the Cover Guide is set upright.

3 : Pinch the Paper Guide and slide it against the left side of the envelope.

4 : Press the Paper Feed Switch so that the Auto Sheet Feeder lamp lights up.

5 : Set the Paper Thickness Lever to the right.

In the printer driver, select 'Envelope' in Media Type, and then select 'DL Env'. or 'Comm. Env. #10' in Page Size.

Where to place envelope.

This should be in your manual complete with pictures.

You can print a single envelope using the photo/envelope feeder. Insert the envelope into the photo/envelope feeder with the side to be printed facing down and the flap to the left.

You can print multiple envelopes (max 20) from the bottom tray. Temporarily remove the top (output) tray. Slide the paper guide in the bottom tray to the left. Load your envelopes to the far right with the side to be printed down, flaps to the left (I like to tuck the flaps into each envelope so they are less easily jammed, but this is optional). Slide the paper guide to the right snugly against the envelopes. Replace the output tray. Start printing.

How do you print envelopes on the Canon Pixma iP4600. What feeder do you put the envelope in? I need to print on square envelope 155mm x155mm and don't want the envelope to get creased.

I print envelopes a lot for my business.
What I do is I use the regular paper feed, and I open the flap on the envelope so that it's flatter. Simply slide the paper guide to adjust to the size of the envelope.
Also, typically the orientation for printing envelopes is sideways. You put the left edge of the envelope in the printer first. If you are unsure of the orientation, simply do your first print on plain paper. Then you'll know how to insert the envelope.

Printing envelopes

You have to either use the MP Feeder or an Envelope Feeder. When you send the job to the "Manual Envelope" option, it will beep and prompt before each envelope is printed. Same will happen when you use the "Manual Paper" option.

You will have a hard time printing 1000 envelopes. The printer will print a rated engine speeed for the first 6-10...After that, the narrow media sensor will force the printer to slow down and you will proabably get 5-6 envelopes printed per minute.

Printing envelopes

If you look closely at the very front of the paper tray, just to the left of the sliding thing that keeps the paper from drifting out of the front, you will see a couple of illustrations showing how to position envelopes in the paper feeder. For regular letter-sized envelopes, or even greeting card envelopes, place them face down with the top of the envelope pointing to the left as you are facing the printer. The return address area should be away from you. Position the envelope all the way to the right side of the paper feeder, then gently slide the envelope all the way back until it is stops so that it is accessible by the paper feeder. Bear in mind that it will be flipped over when it comes out. To avoid wasting an envelope, do a trial print on a piece of paper to make sure you understand the positioning correctly. Good luck!

Solution --> Phaser 4400 Printer: Printing envelopes

Printing EnvelopesEnvelopes can be printed from the optional envelope feeder, the Multi-Purpose Tray, or Tray 1, 2, or 3.
Guidelines for envelope printing
  • Use only paper envelopes.
  • Do not print on the back of the envelope.
  • Never use envelopes with windows, metal clasps, or exposed gummed surfaces.
  • Keep unused envelopes in their packaging to avoid the effects of moisture and dryness, which can affect print quality and cause wrinkling.
  • Envelopes may wrinkle depending on weight and stiffness of the envelope.

Many applications include a tool for creating an envelope document. For example, Microsoft Word includes an Envelopes and Labels feature in the Tools menu. Be sure to:
  • Select faceup.
  • Clear Clockwise Rotation.
  • Select the feed method with the image centered and the stamp on the envelope to the upper left.

caution_image88x30.gif Never use envelopes with windows, metal clasps, or exposed gummed surfaces; they can damage the printer. Damage caused by using unsupported envelopes might not be covered by your printer's warranty.
note_image33x30.gif Note: The heat from the printing process can melt certain types of envelope glue. If the envelope flap sticks shut after printing the test print, tuck the flaps inside the envelopes when printing the remaining envelopes. Printing envelopes from the envelope feeder
  1. Insert the envelopes into the envelope feeder. For more information, refer to the Trays section of the Trays and Paper Guide on the Interactive Documentation CD-ROM.
    • Place the side to be printed faceup.
    • The top of the envelopes should be toward the left of the printer.

PIXMA 830 Smudges when printing envelopes

On my MP780, be careful to select the appropriate paper type; I was getting black smudges on the left side of my envelopes until I explicitly set that my paper type was "envelope" from "plain paper".
Another idea is to adjust the "ink drying wait time" to a higher level.
