I have 1956 Westinghouse fridge vintage but recently the compressor stop and do not want to kick again. It was very hot & look like completly jammed. Can we replace it and if yes, I would like to replace it by something less noisy if it is possible.

    Thanks,

Jccam, just wondering if the service tech tapped into the system. This way he could tell whether or not you were low on charge or had a restriction in the system. You can replace the compresser on this model. It has to be done by a epa certified technician. Part number for the compressor kit is 2212192. You can see if it would be cost effecient at this link http://www.repairclinic.com/0080.asp Catriver post back.

Have had all fans, motherboard replaced only to get 38 and 54 in frzr n fridge. had compressor replaced and now only gets to 75.should i check freon? It is a ge monogram, i dont know what else to do

When the compressor is replaced, the coolant must be removed, fit the compressor, bring the system down to a vacuum then refill with coolant.
I would get the refrigeration guy back to check for a leak caused by a bad installation.
By the way, FREON is no longer used at it causes depletion of the ozone layer.

Refrigerator not cooling at all

Sounds like it needs more gas, and checking for leaks. If you have a leak tester, you can test that yourself, but topping it up has to be carried out by an authorised technician, sorry. Call your local fridge guy. Hope this helps :)

Repairman says slow freon leak

If you are a generally lucky person it would probably be best to try and find the leak because the chances are I feel, somewhat greater the leak will be found where the compressor is joined and the pipework most subjected to vibration - fairly close to the compressor.

If the evaporator or condenser is leaking the fridge would be past economic repair.

If you aren't a lucky person it might be wise to make a different choice...

My Whirlpool ET8WTKXKT0 doesn't cooling down. The fan is working, but the compressor like dead. What I have to check? Thanks. Victor

Its the problem with compressor,The problem is weak compressor. The refrigerant ( R12) in the compressor is got low.The compressor is weak. The compressor needs to be replaced.-------------- The working procedure of this unit is as follows: --- The compressor starts then it cools the freezer section. When the freezer reaches its cooling level the defrost cycle starts functioning. In this cycle the fan in the freezer section starts running and the cool air in the freezer section is passed to the fridge section and the fridge section gets cold. The air from freezer to refrigerator passes from the section, in that section the damper is located.------------ But as you mentioned that freezer not cooling this indicates problem with compressor. When compressor cools the freezer section then fridge section gets cold.If freezer section is not getting properly cold then fridge section will not cool properly/.So the problem relates to compressor.---------- In the compressor there is a refrigerant called FREON.With the help of this Freon the compressor cools the freezer section.Freon is a gaseous type cooling agent. The compressor will stop cooling when coolant gets leaked from its chamber.--------- Again recharging the Freon is possible, but the cost for that recharging is approx the cost of new compressor. So its always advisable to get compressor replaced.Because new compressor has warranty for few years.------------------ You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

My fridge stopped cooling. the motor runs, but everything is warm. I have a bottom freezer Amana approx 4 yrs old. Is it worth fixing or should I buy a new one?

The compressor is working is a good thing ,you have leaked out some freon and it might be pricey to fix and I don't know with all the capturing of the gas ,recharging, only after they found the leak. Definitely get an estimate before you do anything ,but to answer you question is it worth it ,you'll have to weigh that out ,but a fridge is good for at least 10 to 15 years or longer. If not freon you could also have a thermostat problem which wont be so heavy on the wallet, get a guy out to diagnose it and see where you stand is all you can do.

I have a Maytag mtf2195aes model refrigerator. I paid some guy $160 to fix the defrost timer. It is not fixed. The problem is that the freezer part is building up water droplets at the top of it. The back...

It is not that defrost timer or the thermostat control if this part are faulty, your fridge may not run, your problem is in your fridge system

try to have this check:

1. see the pipes all around the back and inside the freezer (underneath its wall) see if there is a part oily (cause: possible leakage due to use of sharp pointed object that hit the pipes)

2. possible leak at the back pipes near compressor due to vibration

Result:

Under charge or loss of refriferant (freon gas)

Solution:

find the leak and fixed it, charging of freon

Refrigerator compressor overheating

Seems as if you have arefrigerant leak (or water vapor in the system) - both of which will trash the compressor in short order.
Time to take it to a pro who will put gauges on it and find out.

96 gmc k1500 4x4. a/c does not work

The 5.7l has a low pressure on off switch. if you freon is low it will not allow it to turn on. This is a way to protect the compressor. By jumping that compressor switch, it will turn on and blow hot because there is no freon AND NO COMPRESSOR OIL!!!! don't do it very long or you will trash your compressor if it is not already. Most vehicles these days have this safety feature.

Compressor runs constantly, fridge cools, but not as cold as new

If unit is running constantly, and not nearly as cold as it used to be, most likely a freon leak. Possibly a partially frozen over evap too. If evap is mostly clear except for about 5% of it, most probably a freon leak. Changing controls will probably not fix anything. Need to look into this a little deeper.

Good Luck and hope this gets it done for you.
