Hi. i have marantz sr-14 ex receiver around 10 y.old. my receiver looses settings to its default after i turn it off , but stays if i press stand-by. also where are all fuses located and how many of them? want to try to change them to hifi-tuning fuses . heard it will better the sound quality
I've owned an SR-14EX for a few years. No setting would be held if the power was turned off on the unit. I sent the receiver to my repair shop that replaced a dead capacitor that held a charge for around a week when it was new, but had long lost it's capacity. It's not a cheap replacement, but I like that my settings and radio channels do not get lost after a lengthy programming. This is one of the great receivers, it still sounds incredible. Good luck.,
Changing the type of fuses in your receiver will not change your sound quality at all.

my friend has the same problem with an SR 4001. the tech said it was an internal fuse soldered to the board. the display showed an error code that clued in the tech of the problem. I am trying to find the fuse on the board, and trying to get a value(Volts-amps) of the fuse

Did you ever get this problem resolved? I have a chance to buy one of these from a guy who indicates he's having the same problem, but if fixing is going to be a bit expense, I will pass.

It's probably just an age issue. Capacitors in the power supply can dry out and not charge properly, and that would be a good place to start looking for problems. Sometimes you can see obvious signs of failure, like bulgy or split tops. Other times the only way to tell is by measuring the part's value. Another common problem is rectifier diodes that break down and short, or may have been damaged by power line surges. They cause the line fuse to blow when they fail, so if you find a blown fuse this may be why. Most shops have a small charge to check over a receiver, and it might be worth paying to have this looked at. Then you can make your decision.

do the basic test
-first connect the RCA cable into the auxiliary input power on the receiver
-connect the speakers to the speaker output of the receiver.
-set the volume into the maximum level
-touch the RCA cable input with your hand you should hear a loud humming sound when you touch the RCA plug.
-if no sound is heard the reciever is defective or you had connected it to the wrong terminal check your connection..
