Simple! Put it under the sun for 6hrs or use a blow dryer.
I mistakenly left mine in my pants and I put it in the washer for over 30mins (Unknowingly), when I remembered, it was kinda late. I put it on and it shut down. Connected it to my PC and it didnt work then I opened it, and put it out in the sun for over 6hrs and it came back to life. Only problem is, the backlight wasnt working for sometime, but now, everything is working perfectly.
Don't turn it on right away. Water alone does not break electronics. If the player was off when it got washed and it hasn't been turned on since it is probably still OK. If you turn it on when the unit is dry (inside), it will be OK.
But. If you tried it right away, and there was water in it when you turned it on it's game over. The unit will probably short out and never work again.
The question is how do you know when it is dry inside?

If you've been trying to turn it on, then it's unlikely to work again.
If anything like that happens again, "DON'T TURN IT ON". Take the item
apart carefully keeping the screws together and leave the parts spread
out in a warm dry place like an airing cupboard for about a week. Then
put it back together and cross your fingers.
As a mom who did the exact same thing to her 14 year olds Ipod, I can totally empathize. However the only solution I came up with was to purchase a new Ipod. My daughter still has her original one due to sentimental value, it was engraved. It still has not ever worked again and this happened in March.
I think you fried it. put it under a lamp for a while (not too close to the lamp) to try and dry it out. if that doesnt work, something shorted out inside, and you can repair it or get a nice shiny new one
