Washer fills with water, then stops

I have a Kenmore one speed automatic washer, model number 110.20442, serial number ck 4849107. The washer starts fine, fills with water, then right before the rinse cycle, it stops, will not drain water or proceed. I have changed the lid switch thinking this was the problem, now nothing. Before I changed the lid switch, if you hit the lid itself, it would start. Now that doesn't even work.

If your Kenmore one speed automatic washer is not draining or proceeding past the rinse cycle, there may be a few potential issues that could be causing the problem. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Check the drain hose: Make sure that the drain hose is not kinked or obstructed. If the drain hose is obstructed, the washer will not be able to drain properly.
  • Check the drain pump: The drain pump is responsible for pumping the water out of the washer. Make sure that the drain pump is not clogged or damaged. You can access the drain pump by removing the front panel of the washer.
  • Check the motor coupler: The motor coupler is a small plastic and rubber component that connects the motor to the transmission. If the motor coupler is worn or broken, the washer will not be able to agitate or spin. You can access the motor coupler by removing the cabinet of the washer.
  • Check the timer: The timer is responsible for advancing the washer through the cycles. If the timer is not working properly, the washer may get stuck in one cycle and not proceed. You can check the timer with a multimeter to see if it is working correctly.
  • Check the control board: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, the problem may be with the control board. The control board controls all of the functions of the washer, and if it is not working properly, the washer will not be able to proceed through the cycles.
If you've tried these steps and the problem persists, it may be best to contact a professional appliance repair technician for further assistance. They will have the expertise and tools needed to properly diagnose and repair any issues with your Kenmore washer.
