Are you using the same model? Is it Renco Cable Converter? I yes, this is the only way to reset it. I have used this method several times and it does not fail to work. From what country you from?

SOURCE: cant program directtv remote to sony tv

I'm not sure of your model number but those remotes use the NEC codes and the variants on the NEC codes. If that code set is not the databse, you may have to "learn" it on your particular remote.

Good luck

SOURCE: can't program remote control...

The code is 11602. BUT, with OPC on it works only until it gets dark. Then I have to place alu foil over the right side of the box to keep it working.

SOURCE: My Sharp Aquos TV has stopped responding to remote control(s)

Unplugging my TV for 15 seconds (longer actually - at least a minute) made the remote and the satellite TV remote both work again with the TV.  Thanks for the tip!

I have a vcr/dvd combo. Can't record on it, was told that was because the cable here is digital. Is there some sort of adapter I can attach to enable my vcr to work again?

The only way to get your cable company's digital cable into the VCR is to provide a separate cable TV converter box for it.

This will be "an additional outlet" as far as the cable company is concerned - which means you'll pay extra for it. The other problem will be that you will have to locate the VCR cable converter away from the one used to send a program to the TV. This is because there is a very good chance that when you aim the remote to change the channel on the TV's cable converter - it will also try to change the VCR cable converter box.

If however, you have HD service on your TV you should not get an HD box for the VCR - unless there are stations that only exist on the HD converter box. This is because your VCR (like all the others in the world) are only capable of recording the old, analog "SD" or standard definition video signals. If you decide to go the route of an HD and an SD converter setup, you may not have a problem with one remote controlling both converters. Ask the installer (or test yourself) before setting it all up and merely assuming it will work as you expect.

If you end up with two identical converter boxes, you're going to need to either separate them so that the remote will not operate both at the same time. If this isn't doable, you might consider placing electrical tape or similar to block the remote signals from reaching the the VCR converter, and use the channel up / down controls on the converter box itself to tune instead. Since the VCR will only record what is sent to it - you'll have to make sure the converter box is not only on, but tuned to the correct channel before each time you want to record something. This brings up the last caveat, you'll need to set your VCR channel to match the output of the converter box (usually ch 3 or ch 4) and record only that channel. You could simply connect the converter audio and video output to the VCR's audio and video input instead. If you do this, make sure the VCR is programmed to record only the audio and video input ("A / V") instead of a channel.

This can sound a little complex - and it is to some people, but with a little work and some time, you'll be able to do this fairly easily. I wish there was an easier way to do this - but not yet with cable companies so far. The satellite providers are ahead on this with "multi-room viewing" service. Something to think about the next time your cable company announces a rate hike.

I hope this was helpful and good luck!

I accidentally locked a channel on my ty-187 cable converter. How do I unlock it?

i have the same problem. you can try this: on your remote press P.L twice. you will see LOC on your converter. once this appears, enter the lock code. If you don't know the lock code, then your doomed. :(
i had the same problem with my box. i did trial and error and came up with the steps that i had mentioned. however, since my remote control was acting up, it came up with its own code and i can no longer view the channels that are locked... bad for me! oh well, i hope the steps work. :)

I can't find my remote and i need to set the channel on 3 or 4 for my cable. how do i do that manually?

There should be a setup/action or a menu button on the front of the t.v. Press that and use your volume or channel up/down buttons to navigate through the settings. Your looking for something that says auto program highlight it and figure out witch button is the enter button. Make sure that before you do the auto program that it's set for cable not air. Once it's done searching you should be able to change your channel manually.

Have an rca digital converter box model dta800b1 and a phillips universal remote can i program it so my box get the channels

Find the user guide for your universal remote and use the RCA cable tv/satellite codes, and one should work for your RCA DTA800B1 converter box. My Sharp Aquos remote liked the RCA satellite code.

I have an older Sanyo (approximately 8 years old) and my remote control is damaged (only the buttons/controls on the right side are working, volume turns up but not down, most of the left keys do nothing)....

If you are feeding the signal from your digital converter into the TV antenna input, I would input the converters signal to the TVs video input instead. I am assuming your converter has a video output signal and left & right audio so you will need cables for your audio also. If your converter has only rf output for the TV tuner input it is generally on either channel 3 or 4 and there may be a switch to set this. It is possible that when the TV scanned for channels the converter was off and it did not find a signal on 3 or 4. If you can get the TV to re-scan, be sure the converter is turned on and on an active channel. All your channel selection should be via the converter after that and the TV simply stays on 3 or 4. I would suggest looking in to getting the original remote. Try partstore.com and see if they have one for your model.

I changed batteries in my remote and i cant figure out how to reprogram it

http://www.remotecodelist.com/remotes/magnavox/Philips-Magnavox_PM525S.pdf
This is the user's manual for a Phillips remote control. There is a list of codes in it. They should be rather universal. There's also instructions as to how to program it. I believe that there is a way to program it without using the codes.

Programming with Code Search

1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be controlled.

2. Press and hold Code Search button until the red indicator stays on. Release the Code Search button.

3. Press and release the desired mode button (TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blink, then stays lit.

4. Press the Channel Up button repeatedly (up to 300 times) until the device could be controlled changes channel. The red indicator blinks, then stays lit. If you accidentally overshoot the code required, press the Channel Down button to backtrack through the library until the device changes channel. Pressing Channel Up changes direction to forward again. Press and release the Mute button to install the code.

Hope this helps :)
