hayward h250 gas pool heater pilot won't stay lit. will light with the button depressed but whet i let go of the button after 30 seconds it goes out. already replaced the thermal couple.

You might need to have your gas lines cleaned. If there is a blockage of the gas line, you might not be getting enough fuel to start the heater. If that doesn't solve the problem, try consulting the owners manual for these pool heaters. The troubleshooting guide might help you narrow down the problem.

H250 hayward pilot series

Those particular heaters can be tricky because they came a few different ways, including a millivolt to electronic spark conversion that was done on site.
Your best bet is to get an old pool tech out there to see if they can get it fired up. The variables involved are far too extensive to troubleshoot in this format. Good luck with it.

After the pilot lights, the flame won't stay on when I try to turn the valve to the 'On' position for the Hayward H250

This is most definately a bad thermocouple. Very eaasy to replace.

Check the thermocouple that the pilot light heats up. If it is not working then the gas to the pilot will not stay on.

Pilot light is lit, but heater will not fire

Make sure thermostat is set higher than water temperature. Make sure pump is running and water is flowing through unit. If gas valve is not opening then flame sensor or gas valve is bad.

make sure the flame hits the thermo couple if so then replace it lows has them in the water heater section thermo couple gets hot makes millivolt signal then opens gas valve
