Ok, first, good day to you.
Now to the problem, my cd-rw\dvd-r combo doesn't read any data dvd (games, data, and so on). The funniest part is, that it does read dvd video disks and normal cds.
Any suggestions?

Maybe it's time to replace but try this last thing before opening the trash can lid:-
Go to my computer>properties>hardware>device manager and look down the list for your cd/dvd drives and click the '+' sign then highlight your dvd drive and right click to delete.
Restart the pc and windows will find the drive again automatically and install the drivers.

try to clean it with cd cleaner. after that try your known good cd maybe its just the cd/dvd that has the problem. if still doesn't work try using cd first then dvd. because some combo drive fail to read cd but can read dvd or vice versa. also check for the cd or dvd speed, type and class.
regarding you problem try to insert another dvd there might be a possibility that you combo drive is very sensitive that not able to read scratched disc or pirated cd.
Hello Rfd832, What I see from the description is that the drive is a combo drive. Combo drives are CD-RW and DVD-ROM drives means CD-RW = Compact Disk-Read Write DVD-ROM = Digital Versatile Disk - Read Only Memory so these drives can read and write CDs but can only read DVDs (Cannot write or burn DVDs) If you want to be able to burn DVDs then you need to have DVD RW drive (either DVD+RW or DVD-RW)
You said that you are able to burn DVDs on other computer so please check the label on the DVD drive.. it should be DVD-RW/DVD+RW drive
Chek wtat is written on front panel
If it DVD-RW it can record only DVD-R blank, if it + so only +R
or DVD-RAM. If it is DVD +/- RW or RAM it can record any disk.
Also chek the speed for you DVD and disk you using.
If you dvd maximum speed for recording is for example 2.7, 4, 8 you should use only DVD with max speed 2.7, 4, 8 or 1-8, 1-16 etc. So they should be labeled the same as you DVD
Good Luck
It seems that what you have is a combo drive only :( it only recognize DVD reading. no matter what driver you used. need to buy a dvd writer/ that said can write dvd.

ok sir witch company your DVD - RW first telme ?
ok any one open dvd drive clean lenss with cottin net fit same dvd use the dvd & cd data check data cable. open carefully ok you don't know contact H/W Eng : if Any Problam My email id : [email protected]
I would suggest cleaning the drive with a cleaning dvd, $19.99 at most retailers. Or you can open up your computer and verify all connections to the drive are good, disconnect and re-connect to be sure.
Hope this helps.
Assuming you have tried different makes of cd or dvd disks, it's a classic drive failure problem where the laser can no longer burn or read dvd's, but may still be able to read cd's only.
You will have to replace the drive, they are quite inexpensive, and very easy to fit.
