Convergence problem? Our 50" rear projection Pioneer TV will be ok when first turned on but soon after the three color ghosting will start, soon after you will hear a POP noise and turns off. You can't re-start it for a while then same sequence. I talked to someone and they said it was the convergence board and would cost $450.00 + taxes. Any thoughts?

Thanks for your input. Since I am a bit of a layman with respect to TV's how do I identify the convergence board?

If it's OK when first turned on, I would suspect either bad solder connections on the convergence or power supply board, or capicators on either board heating up and breaking down. Pioneer parts are expensive, so I would look for a shop that can do component level repair. You may save about $100 or so.

Colors on tv are seperating. looks like double images.

Hi, Try the auto convergence or auto focus to eliminate the problem, if this does not work, you may have to get the TV repaired, the common problem are the power amplifiers that correct the color convergence, that is why you get color shades or ghosts in the images.

The tv image is showing in three colors....Almost ghost like but in three colors. I checked my connections and tried my blue ray player and the image is still messed up....I did press the magic focus...

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.
This is a very common failure on these projection sets and a fairly simple DIY fix. All projection sets including Samsung, RCA, Sony, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Pioneer, Akai, GE, JVC, Toshiba, and others at some point will have the same problem.

PLEASE HELP (Three Ghost Images)

You will need to have or change the convergence correction driver IC's. There are two of them in this TV set. Not a fix for a novice I'm afraid. If you have no solid state repair experience, play it safe and call out a pro to assist you in this repair.
