I installed the CD and downloaded the update from the Olympus website, but still can't seem to figure out how to transfer files from my recorder to my laptop. I'm running Windows Vista home...help!
There are many steps in installing Digital Wave Player on VISTA, it is important to follow every step since installing Digital Wave Player on VISTA is dependent on this process.
Install a VN recorder on VISTA
*************************
1. Make sure the device has been uninstalled in device manager
2. Make sure the old version of digital wave player is uninstalled.
{Delete Temp files in Internet Explorer --Tools--Internet Options --Delete Files-- Delete offline content--OK}
3. Install digital wave player (The newest Version).

4. Install the 2.1.4 vista update
http://olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/software_results.asp?id=1291&os=w
5. Restart the computer.
6. Plug in the VN recorder to the USB port and turn the recorder on.
"Found new hardware" will appear,
7. install automatically.
This may fail, if you see VNUSB device, skip the final steps and proceed to Digital Wave Player to Download files from the Digital Voice Recorder.
If you will see "Other devices" listed in Device manager with "digital voice recorder" underneath it.
8. Right click on the "digital voice recorder"
9. Select update driver from the pop up menu.
10. Choose the browse computer Option
11. Browse to the location on your computer where you downloaded and saved the Digital Wave Player files from Step 3
12. Click Next
A security warning window will open,
13. Choose "install anyway" and the device will install.
When successfully installed you will see the "other devices" disappear and a VNUSB device with a "VN series device"
underneath it appear at the bottom of the device manager list. There will be a blue question mark next to the device. At this point you can close the device manager and the properties window and open Digital Wave Player. You will see the recorder listed underneath the recorder folder and be able to download and use the program normally now.
I had to call Olympus themselves to get the answer. So if you are running Vista you need to install the original installation disc and then run the update from the Olympus site. And you have ti make sure the recorder is not plugged in during any of this. Once everything is installed you can open the Digital Wave Player program and the recorder should show up in the bottom left of the screen. You then click on transfer and either transfer one or all of the folders depending on what you want. Here is where you find the files. You goto the my documents folder and open the Digital Wave Player folder, then the message folder, and all the audio folders should be there. To retrieve a file you have to copy and paste it onto the desktop. That is the only way to separate the files.
I had the same problem in my 64-bit Vista, though was solved with downloading the 64-bit driver from the company.

It solved it for me. No need to open device manager.
I had the same problem. Was looking for the button shown in the manual all over my recorder. The thing is you must first start the program installed from the CD. The button shown in the manual is in the program, not on the recorder itself.

Can't transfer to PC either. Added software update. Still can't get the "grayed out" menu items on top to become active for transferring; nothing shows up in the Recorded Folder below. As if there's no connection between recorder & PC. Screen shows "PC" when I connect to laptop but nothing else happens. On Vista or XP desktop.
When I plug my recorder to the PC, the recorder screen shows "PC" and you can't do anything with it. On the digital wave palyer program all the buttons at the top are greyed out. I can't transfer anything over!!!!!! HELP! I"ve tried installing updates as suggested...still not working! I thought this was suppose to be an easy transfer!
I have the same problem, I installed the software as instructed, plugged my recorder into my laptop, the programme came up but it was showing nothing in the files. All buttons were greyed out so i couldnt press anything. There is an option to transfer all files when the recorder is detected so i ticked that but nothign happened. The recorder screen just says 'PC' and nothing can be done.
I also tried opening the programme before i connected the recorder and this still doesnt work!
Any solutions anyone?
i have installed the digital wave player, it is recognizing my recorder but when i click the transfer folder option it acts like it is transferring but nothing shows up in my pc folder. i also cannot access files on the recorder itself through the computer.
