I have the same problem, Cartridge Error 50C. My Black cartridge is new, the color is almost empty, I've pulled both cartridges and put them back, disconnected and reconnected, uninstalled and reinstalled. I'm now slightly miffed so not messing with it anymore. I'll go to Kinko's with my flashdrive. JEEZ. I will try again after the holidays with a new color cartridge and see if that works.

my printer said no cartridge when there was one and then gave code 50C. When it is printing it doesn't print black but prints colour. On the test page it prints both

Same thing has happened to my X5150. I looked inside as suggested by another web site and in the far left corner it has black ink everywhere as id it leaked out while not being in use. There seems to be a fine mist sprayed on the back in the corner. I dont think there is any hope for the black anymore it is too much to clean. This must be a defect for this product. :(

My remedy; Go to Sears. Buy a sledge hammer. Beat the **** out of the printer. NEVER EVER BUY A DELL AGAIN!!

Me, too. I landed up changing the cartridge and it was fine. Only put in the black and ignored the color error, and it works now.

I agree with teenix. I inherited this printer from a friend at work. It had been standing for a long time, thus the cartridges are more than likely dry. I bought a replacement black cartridge t see if it still worked and received the 'cartridge error 50C'. Tried TEENIX's suggestion (after many others) and it worked. My understanding... the "50C" error applies to both cartridges, so you have to try both. Any one fault will cause the error code, so try and work with the cartridge you know is OK and ignore the error for the other cartridge. My mistake was to try and remove all error codes even though I knew that the Colour cartridge was probably poked.

We bought this pinter 2nd hand, and the scanner worked fine, but printing was goofy-it would only print if it wasn't something that we had scanned in to the computer and it was always yellow or green. so we went and bought a BRAND-NEW black ink cartridge and it's been working. (we bought it less than a month ago) my printer has been working fine and my husband was in the middle of printing several pages when error 50c popped up on the screen (of the printer). i've been trying the different ideas online (from other people who have had the same problem) but they aren't working. if i go get the black refilled will that work, or do i have to go buy ANOTHER brand-new cartridge? let me know a.s.a.p! THANK YOU! [email protected]

This is a cartridge error. Take out the color cartridge and restart the printer (turn it off then on again). If the same error persists than replace the color and remove the Black cartridge and try again. If you are using the machine as a scanner you can scan in black and white without the color cartridge being present.
I haven't tried it as a printer, but that should work too.
Buy a replacement cartridge and things should be good again. (I have learned to steer clear of re-filled color cartridges for my printers. Buy the name brand.)

How do i fix Cartridge Error 50C?

Hi,

The reason for this kind of error in your printer is it might be due to your shorted print cartridge .Try to power off your unit and unplug it. After few minutes again turn it on.Try to un install and then reinstall your cartridges. Or else go for a new cartridge to fix this error for sure.

Thank you !!

LEXMARK X5150 CARTRIDGE ERROR

Try this --
Cartridge Error 50C
Your print cartridge has shorted.

  1. Power off your All-in-One and unplug it.
  2. Plug in your All-in-One again and turn it on.
  3. Uninstall and then reinstall your cartridges.
  4. If this does not resolve the issue, try the troubleshooting steps for the other cartridge errors below.
Cartridge Error
Complete the following instructions:
  1. Power off your All-in-One.
  2. Use both hands to lift up the scanner unit until the scanner support holds it open.
  3. Turn the All-in-One on. The print cartridge carrier moves and stops at the loading position, unless the All-in-One is busy.
  4. Remove the color print cartridge.
  5. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  6. If the error message reappears, replace the black print cartridge with a new print cartridge.
If it does not repeat steps 1-3 and then go to step 7.
  7. Reinstall the color cartridge and remove the black print cartridge.
  8. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  9. If the error message occurs again, replace the color cartridge.
  10. If an error message reappears, repeat steps 1-3 and reinstall both print cartridges.
  11. Lower the scanner unit until it is completely closed.
  12. If you receive the error message again, replace both cartridges

Cartridge error 50c

Have you tried the Lexmark Knowledgebase?

http://support.lexmark.com/cgi-perl/knowledgebase.cgi?ccs=229:1:0:133:0:0&framed=&docid=ENUS8448&relevance=1

It addresses this specific issue. It sounds like a shorted cartridge. However, sometimes this just means that the contacts in the cartridge carrier need to be cleaned. You can do this by removing both cartridges and cleaning the electrical contacts on the cartridges as well as the ones they touch in the cartridge carrier on the printer. You can do this with a slightly damp soft cloth. You can also use a bit of rubbing alcohol as well.

I would try cleaning the electrical contacts as I described above before I'd do anything like getting new cartridges. If the problem persists after that and after following the instructions in the link I posted above, then it might be time to get new cartridges.
