Firstly, and definitely, your "black" is subwoofer line out.

Check your AV receiver if the subwoofer option is activated. I've known some receivers that have the option to disable subwoofers and push all the bass into their front speakers.

Next, you have to check if your subwoofer is on or off? what about the volume of the sub?

If your subwoofer is passive, which means it does not require powering up using the mains, then you will have to get a seperate amplifier to power the sub up.

SOURCE: subwoofer

Most AV receivers do not have a built in amplifier block to drive a subwoofer, and merely provide the subwoofer output channel at line voltage. Thus, a powered subwoofer is required. Does the subwoofer require mains power? From your description, I'm guessing it doesn't. If not, it does not have a buit in amplifier, you will need to purchase a monoblock amplifier, which is just a mono amplifier with a volume control, no tone controls or anything else. Make sure that the amplifier power rating is as close as possible to the subwoofer power rating, as it is quite possible to blow a speaker by using an amplifier whose power output is too low, by overdriving the amplifier , and putting DC through the voice coil when the amplifier clips. If it does require mains power, it will have an amplifier built in, but does not have line level inputs.

SOURCE: connect powered subwoofer

  • If your receiver has a dedicated subwoofer line level output, we recommend connecting your subwoofer to this jack. Most receivers will have just one (mono) subwoofer output, while quite a few subs require two inputs. You can use an RCA "Y" adapter cord , which is a cable with one female RCA jack at one end, and two male RCA plugs at the other. Some receivers require menu settings (such as "sub-on" or "front speakers-small") that must be made before the sub output will be active.

SOURCE: 8 wires on my subwoofer??

"One has positive and negative input, another positive and negative output (red and black on each)"

Just from your description, it sounds like pos/neg input are the 12 volt pos neg supply for the amp inside the subwoofer. Red is pos, black is neg.

"positive and negative output (red and black on each)"

This sounds like it's used if you want to proved 12 volt pos/neg to another component.

"and a third wire with left input right input positive and negative (blue, red, yellow and black)"

This is for the cables coming from the "subwoofer out" on the amp. This is 4 wires altogether -- correct?

SOURCE: HELPP!! How to connect ''bush dvdav11k'',to TV without DVD Player

    HI,

I TOO HAVE BOUGHT THE AV11K. I TOTALLY HATE IT. ITS LIKE ITS BEEN CO-DESIGNED BY THE EUROPEAN SPACE AGENCY AND THE PLAYER AND WOOFER/AMP DONT FIT TOGETHER.

ID LIKE TO SAY THIS THING IS SO POORLY DESIGNED IT REALLY WOULD BE WORTH SENDING IT BACK FOR A REFUND.

ON THE BACK OF THE PLAYER, AND THE WOOFER YOU'LL FIND LETTERS. IE LF,LB,,,,RF, RB. (LEFT FRONT , LEFT BACK ECT). USING THE 'TULIP CABLES SUPPLIED YOU NEED TO CONNECT THE WOOFER AND THE PLAYER TOGETHER MAKING SURE THE LETTERS CORRESPOND.

DO THIS FOR ALL THE CONECTIONS ON BOTH THE PLAYER AND THE WOOFER. THERE SHOULD BE NON LEFT OVER.

THE LETTERS CORROSPOND THE THE POSSITION OF THE SPEAKER IN THE ROOM. SO ( I ADVISE YOU GET A REAL OF EXRTA SPEAKER CABLE FROM EBAY FOR A COUPLE OF POUNDS ) AND PLACE THE SPEAKERS IN ALL THE FOUR CORNERS OF THE ROOM THEN FILL IN THE NEEDED CABLE TO MAKE IT REACH THE WOOFER, WHICH MOST LIKELY YOU WILL HAVE BESIDE OR BEHIND THE TV AS ITS MOST CONVENIENT THERE ( WOOFERS ARE BASS MAKING SPEAKERS AND DONT REALLY CARE WHERE THEY ARE PLACED IN A ROOM.)

YOU SHOULD BE READY TO GO NOW.

THAT IS IS YOU CAN GET ANY SOUND TO COME OUT THE SURROUND SOUND SYSTEM ( LIKE I COULDNT).

THE SMALLER REMOTE IS FOR THE SOUND. THIS CAN BALANCE LEFT AND RIGHT AND VOLUME. AS WELL AS SELECT A AUX INPUT SUCH AS AN IPOD ECT. ( FOR THIS YOU WILL NEED A SIMPLE 3.5 > STEREO PHONO PLUGS. SIMILAR TO THE ONES USED BY THE AV11K.)

WHY IN HELLS NAME THIS SYSTEM IS ON THE MARKET I DONT KNOW. GOD PLEASE RE-ANIMATE MY LAST, AND TRUSTY PHILIPS DVD PLAYER..

HOPE THIS HELPS ALL UNFORTUNATE AV11K BUYS.

    YOURS SINCERELY,
    ALEX

SOURCE: How do u hook up

Maybe if you described the setup with exact model numbers for everything involved we might be able to answer with specifics.

You could poke around her for the Entra Manual for YOUR model.

    http://manuals.harman.com/INF/Hom/Owner's%20Manual/

What they do NOT explicitly tell you is that the amp in the sub is not for your other speakers running off it's Speaker Level outputs. They're just there as a pass-through if you use Speaker Level from your own amp.

Line Level (RCA) IN to the sub will NOT pass anything out those Speaker level outputs.

Maybe "Polk Audio PSW10 10’’ "&there’s no sound the standby light is red. Connect onkyo av-amp sub pre-out to line in and enter Onkyo av-amp speaker setting then subwoofer level calibration finally set +10db.

How to hook up subwoofer for yamaha RX-496 2channels receiver

You need to connect the subwoofer to your receiver using the speaker wire connections on the rear of the receiver. Take the speaker input from the subwoofer to the A or B speaker terminals on the rear of the AV receiver. Then take the speaker outputs from the sub and connect to the main speaker terminals. Really you need to buy a receiver with a sub out to do it properly. Sell this one and buy another.

I have a vsx44 pioneer and i plug my subwoofer do not work my sub has 2 wires and i have an adapter to plug at the receiver

Is the adapter on the back of the receiver a yellow one (like a tv's red/white/yellow)? And the sub itself is a 2 wire (red/black)? If the subwoofer is just a speaker with no electronics and you answered yes to the first two questions then continue reading...

Problem: New receivers suck and are made for subwoofers that are self powered. The subwoofer input on the receiver only puts out a low signal. The subwoofer itself will amplify the the signal.

Solution: Find a receiver that supports the older subwoofers or do like I did... buy a used 3D surround system for around $10 on eBay, if you don't have one laying around. Be sure to find one that shows a picture of the back so you can verify that it has the 2 wire inputs and supports a subwoofer. Once you have it, connect a cable from the receivers subwoofer output into the surround systems input. It will be only one wire so plug it into the left (white) input on the surround box. You can also use a splitter to get both left/right inputs.

This will enable your subwoofer to be used again and will also give you alot more control over it. Turning off the surround sound box will allow you to keep the bass off when needed. You will also gain individual volume control over your subwoofer this way. I hope this helps!

I have an ULTRA LINEAR HOME THEATRE SUBWOOFER + 5.1 SURROUND SOUND system i am having trouble connecting the subwoofer on the back of the subwoofer it has 4 sets of positives and negatives and i can't seem...

You should have received a MANUAL with the system. Although the RED/WHITE/Black wires relate to Positive or Negative connections, the power is low level audio which is not powerful or dangerous. If you plug any line into another port, it will not damage the system, so try to switch lines around until you get the system working. Naturally you need to place RED out to RED in and so forth; but what ever works is most important.

Get an RCA Y-adapter to feed both INputs on the sub. Define the sub in the Denon and set your other speaker settings as required to redirect the bass/LFE if they can't handle it.

I have an outside light that I want this timer to control. The switch box has a black and a white going out to the light and a black and white with the electricity. The instructions show to hook the red...

You posted under ST01C timer which has 3 wires: black blue and red (no white wire)
Your description seems to say your timer has 3 wires: black white and red

    These are two different timers
I'm going to give you two different instructions that are dead-accurate for both types of timers above:

    1) Instructions for ST01C and EJ500 Intermatic timers with black blue and red
Lets do the black and white with electricity:
The black Hot wire connects to Timer-black-wire
The white Neutral wire connects to white wire going to Load (to lights)

Now the black and white to the Load (lights)
The black to Load (to light) connects to Timer-blue-wire
The white wires are connected together with wire nut

The red wire is capped off, and used only if you have 3-way switching.
    Green connects to bare ground

    2) Instructions for all in-wall timers with black, red and white wires (except Aube series timers)
Lets do the black and white from electricity
The black Hot wire connects to Timer-black-wire
The white Neutral connects to Timer-white-wire and to white wire going to Load

Now the black and white to the Load
The black wire to Load connects to Timer-red-wire
all three white wires are connected and covered with wire nut
    Green connects to bare ground

DO NOT CONNECT RED TO WHITE with any model in-wall timer and then turn on power or it can blow out the timer >>> I just did that while experimenting with the Utilitec 0192773.
Red wire goes to Load on all timers, except with Intermatic ST01C and EJ500

I am trying to hook up a powered sub woofer to a yamaha rx-v461 and i dont know what cables go where on the back of the sub there are two speaker ports and there are two plug ins but each speaker port has...

Your subwoofer probably has both high-power inputs and "normal"low inputs. The first are for receivers, which don't have link-level output for sub, so they are able to take already amplified signal as input.
You need to use link-level input of your sub and connect it to subwoofer-output of your receiver. The output is marked as OUTPUT - Subwoofer and is black-color RCA plug (don't confuse with subwoofer INPUT under MULTI CH INPUT).
Receiver has only mono output for subwoofer. If your sub has stereo input (white/red RCA plugs), connect just the left channel to the receiver, it will still work.
Don't connect anything to the speaker output on the sub, you don't need that.

Connecting Powered Subwoofer to a Receiver

you will need a line-level converter to use this subwoofer- it is a rectangular-shaped box with wires coming out on one end and red-and-white RCA plugs one the other. The end with the wires coming out will hook to the receiver, and the other end will need to plug into the sub.
