1999 Buick Regal Ls just randomly shuts off while driving down the road...sometimes starts right back up and sometimes u have to sit beside the road for up to an hour before it will start again?

Sometimes it won't start after being parked all night! It just shuts down while driving down the road, sometimes it will start back up instantly when I shift to N and turn the key, most times I have to pull off the road and wait for it to crank back up! Local mechanic can not figure out what is wrong with the car.

My car is doing the same EXACT thing. The only difference is that after letting the car sit overnight, it starts right back up in the morning like there was never a problem. It randomly cuts off with no waning. Sometimes it starts right back up, and sometimes I have to sit and wait for up to an hour or so. As with you, NO mechanic is telling me the problem. The problem doesn't pop up with a diagnostic machine. Did you ever find out what was wrong with you car???

SOURCE: i have a 1999 buick regal ls dying.

I found the problem. It was the crank position sensor. There was also a cracked vacuum hose connecting to the diaphragm on the fuel rail. Replaced both and my 92 Buick no longer dies. For the guy who's Buick was dying when using the turn signals - replace the crank position sensor. One of my symptoms of my Buick dying was when I used my turn signals. Use of turn signals places a varying load on the electrical system which messes up the crank posistion sensor if it is going bad.

Check the crankshaft position sensor. It is located forward of the harmonic balancer.Quite often the bracket that holds it gets broke or loosens up allowing sensor to rub on balancer.

I have a 1999 buick regal ls dying.

I have a 99 Buick Regal and it too dies out, but only when I use my turn signals. Sometimes, when trying to start the car...the dash lights would flicker and you can hear some sort of electrical ticking sound. As of today, my car will not start (5/24/09) it hadn't turned over since yesterday. After a process of elimination and searching the net, I think I need a new ignition switch. You may need one as well.

Had the same problem drove me nuts until I tried disconnecting Mass Air Flow Sensor, the car should drive normally but with a "Service Engine Soon Light" on. Mass air flow can run from $140 up, picked one up at recycler for $40.

Worth a try.

The right turn signal will only work if its hit manually instead of just being turned on once. I have checked the fuses and changed the bulbs, all are good. I even cleaned the connection to the light but have had no luck getting it to flash intermittently once I have turnedd the signal on.
