Epson C86 My printer says it is out of ink even though I just replaced all four inks. The level of ink on the black is full but the cyan, magenta and yellow still says empty. I cannot run a clean cycle at all, it will not print anything. What is the problem? How can I fix it other than purchasing all new inks again?

This printer has 4 colour cartridges, black, cyan, yellow and magenta. It can generate a wide range of colours by mixing some or all of these inks to produce a colour photo images.
Hiya,
Unfortunatly this is the curse of Epson and most modern printers, to be able to print you need the full colour set available.
Been through the same thing myself as well as with family and friends.
It's very frustrating.
Sorry I cant help further.

This happened to me twice, You can possibly have no ink in your cyan, magenta and yellow , you would then have to replace them to work the set. I had to do that and it worked =]
You probably have a slowly worsening clog building up in the Magenta nozzles. It's also possible that your ink is reaching its end of life which, given the age of the C86 is entirely possible, especially if you are refilling or using a CIS sytem with your printer.
If it's a clog issue you can try soaking the parking pad with a mildly ammoniated cleaning solution (original Ammonia windex is good for this) or even distilled water. Leaving this with the printhead parked above it allows the solution to wick up into the nozzles and break down any clogs in the printhead.
If the problem is ink age though you will probably want to carry out the solution above AND replace your ink with a fresh solution. A CIS will need a thorough flush to remove any algae and cloggation residues before you use it again or you will just reintroduce the problem.
Hi, If you go to your printer properties, there should be a setting whereby you have to select the option to "PRINT USING BLACK CARTRIDGE ONLY". Make sure this option is selected, otherwise your printer will use ALL colors even if you only print black. Let me know if you need any further assistance. Best wishes, Graemevm
The chip that is located on the cartridge has to be reset also. You can take it to a ink cartridge replacement store. They will reset the chip when they refill the ink, however, Epson doesn't recommend this of course. It is cheaper this way.
