The magnetron is bad. We had a GE service rep check it out and he said that it need to be replaced, The magnetron is leaking and interfering with the control panel. The part is under warranty but it would have been 185 to replace. Our finally died, so we solved the problem by buying a Hotpoint for $140 (made by LG).
Hello ede10,
Based on your problem description, you probably have a bad control board and the cost to remove and replave it would be more than a new micro would cost so.. I would encourage you to consider replacing it...
Good Luck

calvin, If you have access to where your microwave is plugged in, unplug it for a few minutes and then plug it back in. This will reset your contol panel. Then follow your book directions to reset the time on the clock. Hope this helps!
my spacemaker xl jvm 1650 microwave shuts down after just a few minutes of operation and after a few minutes needs to have a clock/time/day etc reset. is this reparable by a homeowner?
Try going to the breaker box and shutting off the power to the microwave for 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, turn back on and set the clock. This fixed my clock and turntable both. Apparently turning off the power resets the software in the clock.
take the cover off of it and plug it back in and see if you can locate the hissing sound, thats a new one on me. hard to help solve problems online unless u are there with it. something is tripping it out
