Ink tends to overflow at the bottom guide rollers and the roller gets coverd in ink and causes the black line! The best will be to take it to a dealer and have it cleaned!Good Luck!
Hi there, had a smiliar problem in the office this week all three printer having the same issue, black lines, all related to the drum kit, either being covered in ink, or in once case it had a break in the roller.
have a look at this pic, its the drum roller for your printer, amazon link
It is normally sits under the printer toner, take the toner out and you should have access to the unit the tonner fits into, if you look at it closly you should see the roller see if you find any telling signs of ink residue/or cracks on it. If you do its most likely the problem.
It's not the cartridges, the waste ink is coming up thru the bottom to the exit rollers. The only fix is to have a shop open it up, clean up the ink mess and install a shield that stops the ink from coming back up when it should go to the absorbers. The new machines all have this shield and the ink tube cut back to make the ink go where it should.
You need a shop to clean the extra ink that's coming up on the rollers and install a mylar strip to prevent that in the future. It's the waste ink being forced up thru the exit rollers and getting on the prints.
Hi there. You aren't alone. I have included a lot of information here, much of which is from an authorized Canon tech. During excessive printing, ink does not get absorbed into ink pads fast
enough causing a build up of ink on the platen roller and the exit
rollers. Canon techs are instructed to replace the ink absorbers
with a modified kit that includes a silicon tube, plastic joint, and
mylar sheet. The shape of the waste ink pad has been changed to prevent the ink build up. If you have a mind to do it yourself and your not under warranty you can purchase the blotter kits at beckscrs.com and I believe the part number is QY5-0146-000. You can download a user manual at www.alfons-servis.narod.ru. I'm going to be real honest with you, though....it is a LOT less complicated, time-consuming and expensive to just buy a NEW printer.
The line is from ink coming up from the absorber pads on the bottom. It needs a good cleaning and a mylar sheet to keep the ink from coming up onto the rollers. A shop repair.
If the large black line is on the back of the page, it is because too much ink is built up under the transport and transferring to the exit rollers. There is a mylar shield needed under the transport after cleaning the rollers to keep the ink from coming up again. Usually a shop repair, around $89.00
The manual for the Canon P170-DH calculator is found on the canon usa web site. It is 22 mg in size, but prints out to 4 pages in English, Spanish and French.
According to the manual: Use only Ink Roller CP-13.
There are four figures showing the steps, so you'll have to imagine it.
1. Turn power switch off.
2. Remove the printer cover (Figure1).
3. Hold the tab of the ink roller. Lift the ink roller out of the base (Figure2).
4. Insert the new ink roller into position. Push down on the center of the ink roller until it locks into place (Figure3).
5. Replace the printer cover (Figure4).
Print out the manual for yourself and put it in a safe place.
