I have been trying of and on for sevral years but I cannot get the rear speakers to work. When I use the test there is sound coming from them. I have upgraded my cables to digital and nothing. I am hoping that maybe it is simple and just me that is off,
Yeh i get the same problem.. i have 5 speakers hooked up to my str- de475 and cannot get sound from my sl/sr speakers its a nightmare aint it? why is there no soloutions on the net for?

I often notice the same problem. and After reading through some of these Q & A's I have a theory. the Sony defaults to 2 channel in most cases i've read, and No Receiver can determine if a cable/sat signal is emitting Dolby Digital or not. so some of the ups and downs I feel come from the misinterpretation of the receiver of the source signal. Especially when you go from show to commercial to show, not to mention Premium channel to Local. I am still testing this theory, but fear I am on to something.
