How do I print a configuration page on an HL-1240

I have been told to turn off the power, hold down the front panel button and turn it on, release the button when the Drum light is on, then push the panel button again when the Ready light is on. I have done this but only get a test page. How do I get the configuration page? Also, when I hold down the panel button and turn on the printer, all of the lights including the drum light come on. When I wait till just the drum light is on, the ready light doesnt come on until I push the panel light again, and then like I said all I get is the test page. What am I doing wrong? I am trying to get a meter read which I am told is on the configuration page.

SOURCE: Brother 1240 drum and ready lights stay on, will

This printer has an on/off switch (on the left side near the bottom), and only one button, situated on the left edge of the front panel, under a column of four colored LEDs.
First, open the front of the printer, as if you were going to replace the toner or the drum cartridge. Then, while the front of the printer is open, press and hold the button (which is now just a piece of plastic film) until the lights all turn off, and then turn on again, one at a time. This took me a few tries. I held down the button/film until that top yellow (drum) light turned off, and once that happened, the other lights all turned on, one at a time, from top to bottom. Then I closed the front cover and the printer works again.
I had tried turning the printer off, and then turning it back on while holding down the button. This did not resolve the problem. I also replaced the drum (twice) and the toner cartridge. I would recommend trying the above procedure, which apparently resets some type of counter relating to the drum, before spending (wasting?) hundreds of dollars on replacement cartridges.
Aside from the above problem, which has now apparently been resolved, the Brother laser printers in this series have been quite reliable and easy to use. I own three of them, and they all get fairly heavy use.

How do you get a page count from an HL 5140/

On the HL-5140, you can print out a config page which will show the page count on it by pressing down the Go button (the blue button). Hold it for a few seconds, until the config page starts to print out.

To find configuration page instructions and page count tips for other printers, copiers, and fax machines, check out How to Print Configuration Pages.

I just replaced my ink on E238 laser printer and the yellow light is flashing. I have been on hold for 45 mins with you help line. Everything still prints but the light is flashing

Hi,

  1. Enter the printer's Configuration Menu. To do this:
  2. Turn off the printer.
  3. Open the front cover
  4. Press and hold the Continue () button.
  5. With the front cover open and the Continue button pressed down, power on the printer.
  6. Hold the Continue button until all the lights cycle.
  7. When just the Error light (!) is displayed, close the front cover. The top four lights of the operator panel should come on, indicating that the printer is in configuration mode.
  8. Print the Configuration Settings page. To do this:
    • Press and hold the Continue () button until all of the lights flash. This page lists the functions within the Configuration Menu. The functions are the non·indented items listed along the left edge of the page (along the bottom as printed from printer). They are also unshaded.

Save this page for possible later use.
  9. Reset the photoconductor page count as follows:
  10. Press and release the Cancel button () to move sequentially from one menu item to another. NOTE: If you get lost, you can press and hold the Cancel button to jump to home state (top four lights on).
  11. Press and release the Cancel button until the Toner Low () light is the only light left on.
  12. Press and hold the Continue button until all of the lights flash.
  13. Then release the button. When the Toner Low light is once again the only light left on, the photoconductor page count should be reset to zero.
  14. Return the printer to normal mode. To do this:
    • Power it off for five seconds and then turn it back on.
  15. Print a menu settings page. To do this:
    • When the Ready () light is on, press the Continue button once. The Ready light will begin flashing and one or two pages will print out.
  16. Check the photoconductor reading on the menu settings page. To do this:
  17. Look for a section labeled Cartridge Information and locate the word Photoconductor under that heading.
  18. Confirm that the photoconductor level reading is OK or close to 100%.
  19. If the photoconductor reading is low, try printing 10 - 20 pages.
  20. Print the menu settings page(s) again. Confirm that the photoconductor level reading is OK or close to 100%.
  21. If the photoconductor reading is still low, refer to the Configuration Settings page you printed in Step 2.
  22. Confirm that Reset Photoconductor Counter is listed on the page.
Also confirm that the light sequence for the photoconductor counter is the Toner Low light.
    • If the light sequence is correct, try repeating this entire procedure again from the beginning to reset the counter once more.
    • If a different light sequence is listed for the photoconductor counter, repeat the procedure but this time, instead of stopping at the Toner Low light (Step 3.2), press the Cancel button until the operator panel shows the light sequence that corresponds to the one listed on the Configuration Settings page. Continue with the remainder of the procedure as before to reset the counter again.
  23. If the photoconductor reading is still low after the page reset procedure has been performed twice, the printer may require service.

I need to reset the NVRAM

Resetting or reinitializing the network card's NVRAM will clear all TCP/IP configuration information. To have a record of this information, it is recommended that you print a network settings page prior to performing the reset procedure. Press pattlnk_8302006_1627-e120con.jpg to print both printer and network settings pages.
  1. Turn the printer off.
  2. Press the left front cover release button and pull the front door down.
  3. Press and hold pattlnk_8302006_1721-e120can.jpg while powering the printer On.
  4. Release pattlnk_8302006_1722-e120can.jpg when the pattlnk_8302006_1723-exclam.jpg LED is illuminated. NOTE: Be patient as the LEDs will light up in multiple patterns before finally stopping at pattlnk_8302006_181-exclam.jpg
  5. Close the front cover. NOTE: Observe that the pattlnk_8302006_1735-e120con.jpg, pattlnk_8302006_1735-rdydta.jpg, pattlnk_8302006_1736-tonrlow.jpg and pattlnk_8302006_1739-rmvpr.jpg LEDs will be illuminated at the same time. This is known as the Home position.
OPTION: Have the customer hold down pattlnk_8302006_1735-e120con.jpg to print a "Printer Diagnostics" menu page.
  6. Slowly press the pattlnk_8302006_1743-e120can.jpg button until the pattlnk_8302006_1750-rmvpr.jpg, pattlnk_8302006_1847-tonrlow.jpg, and pattlnk_8302006_1748-rdydta.jpg LEDs are illuminated. NOTE: Normally, this will require you to press the pattlnk_8302006_1743-e120can.jpg button 11 to 13 times, depending on the options and features installed.
  7. Press and hold pattlnk_8302006_1754-e120con.jpg until all LEDs flash or strobe from left to right, then release the button. Wait until this process stops with a pattern of three LEDs that should resemble the Step 6 pattern.
  8. Press and hold pattlnk_8302006_1844-e120can.jpg until the light pattern returns to the pattern of four LEDs in Step 5 or theHome position.
  9. Turn the printer Off.
  10. Turn the printer On.
NOTE: If on a DHCP network, wait 30 seconds to see if the DHCP server/router sends out an IP address to the device. A settings page will automatically print if this is successful. A longer wait may be required on other networks.
  11. Press pattlnk_8302006_1814-e120con.jpg to print the settings pages and observe that all the TCP/IP settings have been reset.
  12. Reconfigure the device using DHCP, Auto IP (zero configuration) or the IP Setup Utility.

Hope this helps.
