Not cool at all!

Refrigerator does not cool. Light works, fan runs, compressor humms, but not cool. Model is a newer 60722, any trouble shooting ideas? What is the most common failure for a newer model like this?

This unit does not have a freezer section and I'm already pretty sure that it is a sealed system issue. I have done some more trouble shooting and all I really can tell is that the compressor runs ok but gets really hot after a few hours, no cooling at all and no apparent leaks. I believe a restriction somewhere in the line is the issue. I notice that Sears has a 5 year warranty on the sealed system part of these units, so I'm going to see if I can get them to fix it. The unit was free to me to try to fix and I know I can't get into a sealed system problem. Any experience with Sears Warranty work : ) Thanks again for the reply!!!

If the compressor is running you should be cooling unless there is a major loss of refrigerant. What we do for these complaints is to first let the refer run for a few hours then pull the interior rear panel off the freezer section back wall and check the frost pattern on the coils. It should be a nice white frost pattern all the way across the coils (no bare alum. showing and no mass of ice either). If you don't have that pattern then there is a sealed system issue. If you have a massive block of ice all over the coils then you have a defrost cycle issue (not getting proper air circ. due to the block-o-ice thing). Let us know what you find... oh, you can sometimes find the leak by looking for oily residue from the compressor lubricating oil (it leaks out where the gas does also).

If the owners manual shows a 5 year sealed system warranty then Sears will honor it. Figure on about $700 plus to replace everything, but it would be under warranty.

Refrigerator and freezer were working properly before an extended vacation. Cleaned both refrigerator and freezer, unplugged, and left doors open. Upon return plugged in and have waited 72 hours. ...

Hi,

Let's think this through a bit....
You say it is cooling but it seems too quiet.... is the compressor runing but the condenser fan is not??? that would make it cool but not cold and also make it more quiet...
If both compressor and condenser fan are running... is the evaporator fan... the one inside the freezer running? That also could cause the same problems...

Is the compressor running all of the time??? or is it cycling? if it is cycling then it could be a t-stat or sensor problem....if it is not starting properly it may be a capacitor/relay problem...

These are alll things that you can easily check yourself....

If they all checkout... then the unit may have a small refrigerant leak and just will not cool enough now to catchup from a earm condition....
To check that out you would need a tech. to attach gauges to the system and check the charge...

RS652 fridge stopped working overnight tripping circuit breaker

Hi,

Turn it off completely and let is cool over night and then plug it back in and see if the fan runs and if the compressor runs...

If the compressor runs but not the fan then check for voltage going to the fan and replace as needed...if there is no voltage then trace bad to see if the main board is bad...

Start relay and capacitor may be bad if the compressor does not run after getting completely cooled down...
