You did not outline your full problem you say "my dvd does not ? DVDS."IF YOU MEAN. DOES NOT PLAY DVDS then you must clean your lens with a lens cleaner.if that does not solve the problem have it checked by an qualified tech to change the optical lens.

You can make the Player to play all-region DVDs [not Blu-ray discs]. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Surf the site with patience. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/
Procedure to make it region-free to many DVD brands are given.
make sure to use lens cleaner to ensure DVD player is free of dust and dirt on laser lens
another cause would be that your DVD player is no multi-region or not region free, because many DVDs have region settings. in order to make your philips DVD player region free (can play all region DVDs) check link below:
I have the same problem, though I don't recall which exact movies. They were all from Blockbuster. Sometimes they start to play and then halt at the end of track 1 and sometimes don't even make it tot he menu. The same movie will play on our portable dvd player. A Philips rep told me about 6 weeks ago it was a problem with a new security feature on some movies and to watch the website for a possible firmware upgrade to fix it. Now you can't even talk to someone at Philips so I don't know what to think. The "live chat" folks just want to tell you to take it to a repair shop - not much help there.
First try a soft reset... unplug for 20 minutes. Otherwise - the laser is dirty or misaligned. A Repair shop can clean and align for about $50. It takes specialized equipment and templates to align the laser - not something you can do on your own.
Lens cleaner discs don't work.

A DVD player cannot be fixed to record unless it is a DVD recorder. If your problem relates to recording DVDs on your VCR dual player i.e you want to record DVDs on to a Video cassette please do clarify the information and we will be happy to assist.
You can try reseting the unit. Reset the set to the default factory settings: All the information stored (programmes, time and date) will be lost. 1. Disconnect the set from power supply. 2. Press and hold down "STANDBY•ON" on the set and reconnect the set. 3. As soon as "IS TV ON?" is displayed, release "STANDBY•ON."
Hopefully reseting it will clear whatever problem it is having and allow you to once again use your DVD player. Hope this helps. Good Luck.
