The monitor on my laptop is very very dark. I can connect a remote monitor and use the unit that way just fine. If I turn the LCD screen towards a light source while using the laptop as a PC, I can see ghost images of programs that I may be using or the icons on my desktop. This tends to make me believe that the LCD monitor is not bad and that it is some other issue. Can anyone advise please.

Re: Dark LCD Monitor
From what I understand there may be a problem with the power circuitry used to light up a small fluorescent light that is the actual light source for the display. The TFT display itself doesn't produce it's own light, and if you point an external light source to the display and see program windows & other things the display itself is fine. Your problem can be solved with relative ease, but only in a computer service because it demands some components to be changed.

In all likely hood, you have a loose connection or a worn LCD cable. This is a common failure in all laptops. If it is a loose connection, re-seating the connectors on both ends of the cable will cure this. If the cable has broken wires in it, it will have to be replaced. i would suggest a knowledgeable person or pro to tackle this for you.
Usually every laptop has the option of adjusting the screen brightness as you would want the screen to be pretty dim when running on battery to conserve battery life. First thing to check would be just that.
