Question about APC Smart-UPS UPS System

UPS constantly sounding an alarm tone

I bought this UPS for our NGO office. It started to make a high pitched tone (as if it were overloaded) almost from the start. The tone goes starts from the moment you switch it on, even with no load on it, and will continue even when it the UPS is switched off. The only way to stop it is to hold the off button in for 5 seconds or remove the battery connector from the rear. Unfortunately I installed it the evening before I went on leave, and came back to find that the alarm had been going for almost 3 weeks, and that the cleaner had thrown away the box and all documentation, including the software. Obviously it cannot be used while making the sound unless you are looking to give yourself a serious headache. Suggestions please.

Pac makes continous sound

What is the sound? Is the device working normally? Are there any lights or indicators? Do they indicate a fault or error?

A UPS runs on standard 110-120 VAC power. It converts the input power to DC and charges internal batteries, then back to AC. Connected devices actually run on the conditioned 115-120 VAC output. The batteries serve as a short term backup power source.

The electronics in the UPS can produce hum or high pitched tones. The sound should not be annoying. If it is louder than connected equipment (computers) it may indicate a problem. Hum is usually 60 Hz harmonics and difficult to eliminate. This harmonic may be transferred to audio equipment such as speakers or radios. A high pitched tone can be related to the rectifiers for the convertor/invertor. If the tone is loud, it means the rectifiers are drawing a lot of current. This is usually related to bad batteries.

Measure the voltage on the output receptacles. It should be 115-120 VAC. Disconnect everything on the output receptacles. Unplug the UPS from it's power source. If the output power dies within 1 minute, the batteries need to be replaced.

I connected 8, 100Ah battery with APC 2.2KVA inverter, now it doesnt give correct battery indication and keep producing beeping noise, whats the problem?

Continuous Beeping (theamber On Battery LED will be illuminated)
This alarm indicates that the UPS has reached aLow Battery condition and will soon shutdown. The UPS can only operate onbattery for a limited amount of time. In order to protect the unit's batteriesfrom discharging too much, the UPS will shutdown and turn off its output. Towarn you that the unit will soon shutdown, the UPS will sound this alarm 2minutes before actual shutdown. With optional Powerchute Plus software, 2minutes can be changed to 5, 7, or 10 minutes to give you more of a warning ofimpending shutdown. If you hear this tone, you should immediately gracefullyshutdown your operating system to prevent data loss or corruption.
Note:This graceful shutdown will occur automatically if Powerchute PLUS software isbeing used.

Constant, Solid Tone (the red Overload LEDwill be illuminated)
This alarm indicates that the UPS has detectedan Overload condition. If this alarm is sounded, try removing non-essentialequipment. The alarm will remain until the load is reduced. To determine ifyour UPS is capable of handling the equipment you want to protect, visit APC'sSizing Guide at www.apcc.com/sizing.

Continuous Beeps for One Minute; RepeatedEvery 5 Hours (Replace Battery LED will be illuminated)

If it fails and the unit is still in-warranty (twoyears from date of purchase), then contact APC. Constant beep even while driving and when i turn it off it still beeps unless i disconect the interior lighting fuse and plug it back in fuse # 8 i believe. if i leave the fuse out it makes a wierd sound...

1995 GrCher Orvis - I have now just started with the same problem. An incessent loud high pitched alarm sound. Identical fuse, ignition on/off, and ticking issues. Can start jeep, warning sounds as normal followed by incessent tone, I can remove fuse to get quiet, but then when I close the door I get the identical alarm sound, but with a slight pause. Tone. Tone, Tone, etc. I can't figure. Tore through all components of dash: to learn that the alarm seems to emminate from the transmission floor area, and is not in the instrument panel (f up #1) nor is it behind the dashboard (f up #2). I'm stuck now... Anybody got something for me? Is it a transmission warning?

Tone alarm goes off and flashes "overload" and on the back "building wireing fault" is lit up

The "Overload" light and alarm is to tell you that the devices connected to the UPS are drawing more current than the UPS can safely provide with battery backup. You should disconnect a few items, and the alarm and overload light will turn off. The "Building wiring fault" light on the back is to tell you that there's no proper ground wire inside the wall outlet that you're using. These two problems are not related to each other.

Apc

1) Switch Off the UPS and unplug all Loads (like System, Monitor etc.) from UPS.
2) Switch Off the AC Power (Input Power to UPS).
3) Press the UPS Power Switch constantly unless you hear 2nd BEEP Tone. As soon as you are hearing 2nd BEEP Tone, Release the Power Switch.
4) This is COLD START of all APC UPS that will reset any internal problem.
5) If, however, the problem persists, contact APC.
