GoGear is missing music or pictures. The missing files can be seen using Windows Explorer or Windows Media Player but not on the menu of the GoGear. Most of the time the issue occurs after loading new files on the unit. What could be the problem?

Answer
The database of the device may be corrupted, this may be resolved with the firmware upgrade to version 2.4. Please follow the instructions below to upgrade the firmware

IMPORTANT: Please note that since this is a special release, updating the device with this firmware version will result in the loss of all content (music , photos, data files) currently on your device. It is advised to first back up all the content from the device to your PC before carrying out the update. You should copy any files you don't want to lose to your hard drive using Windows Explorer.

  1. Download the attached zip file into a temp folder of your PC
  2. Unzip the file into the temp folder and then double click the DM_WEB_ENG.exe file to install the latest version of the Device Manager on your PC
  3. Follow screen instructions to complete the installation of the latest version of the Device Manager application on your PC. (Version 5.3 (022) for HDD1420, HDD1620, HDD1630 & HDD1635) (Version 5.2 (022) for HDD6320 & HDD6330)
  4. Connect the GoGear to the power supply with the AC/DC adapter.
  5. Make sure all other applications such as Philips Device Plug-in, Windows Media Player or Windows Explorer that accessing the device are closed or else Device Manager will not recognize the device. Launch the Device Manager at Start->Programs->Philips Device Manager->Philips Device Manager on your PC.
  6. Select the REPAIR tab on the dialogue box and then click Repair to start repairing.
IMPORTANT: All music & content of the device will be erased once the GoGear is repaired.
  7. Once the repair is complete a dialogue box will pop up; click OK and unplug the GoGear from the computer. Follow all screen instructions to complete the repair.
  8. The Device Manager will close automatically once the success message is displayed. Close all opened application and then unplug y our device.
  9. Once the GoGear is disconnected from the computer, the display will show “Firmware Upgrading” for a couple of seconds and then start up as usual. You will then need to re-sync the GoGear using Windows Media Player to place your files back on the GoGear.

How to conect to pc

Here's how you do it.
Plug in the Philips GoGear to your computer. Use a USB cable to make the connection so you can begin synchronizing your music collection.
Start Windows Media Player. Depending on how your computer is set up, this program may start automatically when you make the connection with the MP3 player

Find the Sync tab in the media player window. Click on this tab and open the Sync screen. The Sync screen has two panes. The left pane is for the music collection on your computer; the right pane is for the Philips GoGear
Choose the songs from your collection that you want to add to the GoGear's memory. Check the boxes that are presented by each song title.
Click the "Start Sync" button. The files from your computer are being copied onto your GoGear MP3 player.
Wait for the sync to complete. You can monitor the progress in the "Windows Media Player" window.
Close the media player program. Unplug your Philips GoGear from the computer.
Thanks

Cant delet copeis of pics want to save just one copie

Go into the Sync tab in Windows Media Player when your GoGear is connected to the computer. You may have to change the menu in Windows Media Player from Music to Pictures. Then click on a picture you want to delete and press the delete button on your keyboard. Remember: Only delete the photo under the Sync tab - if you delete it under the Library tab, you will actually be deleting the picture off your computer.

Cannot sync photos WMP 11 to Philips gogear

The installation CD came with a file called Philips Device Plug-In - it is critical for viewing photos. DO NOT use this player with Windows Media Player 11 if it is a Philips HDD model - you can see the warning by going to their website at www.usasupport.philips.com

Can't Format,Repair

Turn off automatic synchronization - auto-sync will delete songs off your goGear when they are not also present in your Windows Media Library. Since you have an HDD1630, you are probably using Windows Media Player 10, and I cannot remember the exact instructions for disabling auto-sync in WMP-10.

Oh, wait, yes I do:
Conenct your GoGear to computer
Open Windows Media Player.
Run mouse over Sync Tab - an option should come up saying Set Up Sync - uncheck the box that says automatically sync deevice

You should be good to go.

How do i put pics on my 30GB gogear hdd6330

You will be able to transfer songs using Windows Media Player after this -

Turn off automatic synchronization first.
When you first synced your player to Windows Media Player, you may have set up the automatic sync option. When this option is selected, Windows Media Player will add EVERY song, picture, etc from your Library on your computer to the player. Now, every time you sync you device, it adds every new file from your computer into the player automatically. It will even delete songs from your player that were on there before.

Go into Windows Media Player 11 with your player connected to the computer (it will automatically sync and add new files one last time), move the mouse cursor over to the sync tab; a small black arrow will appear under the word "Sync"; click on the small black arrow and a dropdown menu will appear; select "Portable media device" from the dropdown menu, and another dropdown menu will appear; select "Set Up sync"; a window will appear with some information on your device - uncheck the box that says "Sync this device automatically"; click Finish; This will eliminate the problem of Windows always adding/deleting songs/files you don't want into your player.

Then:
Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).
