A friend on a visit to the US just bought me the camera. I received it two days ago and charged the battery according to the instructions. Upon inserting the battery into the camera a yellow light comes on - the "flash charger lamp". Apart from this light the camera shows no activity and does not switch on when the power button is pressed.
I have tried recharging the battery overnight but the result is the same. I have also tried leaving the battery inside the camera until the yellow light switched off by itslef, but still, pressing the power button yields no results.
PS: Unfortunately since I am based in Nigeria (West Africa), returning the camera for a new one is not an option I can explore.

Have you updated the firmware? According to Nikon, when the Rechargeable Li-ion Battery EN-EL10 is inserted in the camera and charged, charging sometimes did not stop after the designated amount of time had passed. Usually, you'll receive the message "Battery Exhausted" if this is the problem... but you could also have a completely dead camera as well.
See Nikon's website, download updated firmware to your camera and install a NEW battery. http://support.nikonusa.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/16873
Casio cameras use generally chinese batteries. They are mostly under an acceptable quality. So the battery you have bought may be out of order. I do not think that your camera is out of order.
Try another working battery.
If it will not work then send me a comment and lets control additionally.
Hi, as per your information your camera 2 years old but not used much. You buy a new battery 1st time when you charged you see the gree light. But camera not working. When you try to charge the battery again you seen the red light. Its mean your charger have a problem. So what you do now? Ok try these.
Remove the power connection of the charger. then fixed the battery there slowly & properly. After that plug on the charger again. If the same thing happens then unplug the charger & plug in in different point. Then see what showing. If again red light then wait 1 hours and waiting for green signal. If there is no green signal showing then visit a service center with your charger. Tell them your problem. They will fixed the charger for you. Don't worry your camera is ok.
Your new battery or your charger one of then damaged. Thanks & waiting for your feedback.
I didn't have the time to find out what was the problem cause i needed the camera immediately so i bought a new battery and a new charger. Thanks for the help!!
The camera was working fine 5 days ago. Yesterday when I tried to switch it on, I assumed that the battery was flat so I charged it but when fully charged the camera still won't switch on. i Please help!
Hi,
This might be a case of the defective batteries (though brand new). Most if not all rechargeable batteries including Li-Ion batteries have only so much shelf life. The unit might be new but have been with the dealer for sometime.
Probably your best bet would be to bring it back to the dealer and ask for a replacement camera or at least the batteries. Show him the fully charged indicator and how quick it will be gone when you try to take a pic.
Of course, you would need your warranty card, proof of purchase and any other documents normally asked for complaints like this, Hope this give you an idea. Good luck and kind regards.
