Question about Apple 12" iBook G3 700Mhz with 256 RAM, 20GB CD Drive (p/n IBG3-700-CD)-Linited Supply PC Notebook
I have an applle g3 ibook and would like instructions to change out the hard drive.Thank you very muck, Frank
I have spoken to techs and people who do this kind of work and they ALWAYS suggest to let the pros do this kind of work on a laptop. On a desktop computer there is a lot of space to work. In a laptop, everything is so crammed in it is extremely difficult to do unless you really know your way around.

Hi Jallan, You didn?t specify but I assume you have the iBook G3 White. Be warned that Apple categorized this as not user replaceable and ALL of the sites I?ve been to state that this is a job left to those who have the experience. The reason is that you have to do pretty much a full field disassembly to replace the hard drive. If you have excellent attention to detail, patience, experience with the disassembly and handling of electronics then give it a try. If you don?t have these attributes but can afford to risk damaging your laptop beyond economic repair then give it a try. I would strongly suggest you take it to a local authorized repair shop, they won?t charge too much and their work is guaranteed. If you want to go ahead here are two links for disassembly instructions with pictures. Note that the first link instructions are probably the better of the two: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/50.12.0.html http://www.powerbooktech.com/knowledge,name-Hard-Drive,type-6.htm Let us know if you have any other questions and please don?t for get to rate the posting!

This could potentially be a sign of a failing hard drive. Easiest way to find out would be to find your original installation disks, and inserting Disk 1 into the computer, and rebooting while holding down the C key on your keyboard to boot to the disk (If you have your Apple Hardware Test CD, use this instead, and rather than holding the C key, hold the option key when turning it on and tell the corresponding boot selection menu to boot to the hardware test). If you use the OS disks, look in your menus for a program called Disk Utility, and try to look up information on the hard drive to see if there's any obvious signs of it failing. If not, then I would recommend trying to do an archive and install of your operating system (this will keep your personal files and folders intact), to see if this alleviates the issue. If not, then chances are good that your hard drive will need to be replaced.

Thanks for contacting Fixya Support.
I recommend you visit this website:
http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/
This is one of my best recommended websites providing webcam products best compatible with PowerPC macs like the iBook G3 as well as Intel processor based Macs.
I hope this helps.
