PS3 connection to Yamaha HTR-6130 Av Receiver

I have the monster HDMI cable connected directly from the PS3 to the receiver and there is no sound. The audio output on the PS3 is set to Linear PCM. The audio output settings is set to HDMI/Dolby Dig 5.1 ch./Linear PCM 2 ch 44.1/48/96 khz.

Are my settings correct? Do I need another cable to connect to the reciever? and where do I connect it? Thanks for your help.

I just bought an HTR-6130 and connected my PS3 to "DVD HDMI" input of the HTR-6130 receiver and connected HDMI output of the receiver to my 1080P TV. I then played BD and could see the video working on the tv as well as the audio BUT no audio in the receiver at all. I tried muting the tv still no audio in the receiver. What did I do wrong or did not do right?

URNOTME is right. HDMI is great and all, but wish i would have spent a few more dollars on a unit that supports switching. htr-6130 does pass-through, so you have to use seperate audio connections. really there is no use running HDMI into the receiver and then into the receiver and THEN to the tv. just go straight to the tv, then run your audio either optical (best) or coaxial.

Make sure the sound settings on yamaha rxv463 is set to "V464" and not "Other". The parameter is HDMI sound menu.
This receiver can play audio either via V463's speakers or the speakers of another device connected to the HDMI out of the receiver, but not both simultaneously.

The Yamaha HTR-6130's HDMI does not support audio switching. You will have to use a seperate source for this... Digital Optical is your best bet for the PS3!

I have hooked up my DTV box via HDMI to my Yamaha. I have hooked up my Xbox via HDMI to my Yamaha. I have Hooked up my Yamaha via HDMI to my Toshiba flat screen. I can get video from all but I am not...

It could have to do with the settings on each input device (xbox & DVR) -check their audio settings. I have a better solution for your problem though:
Since HDMI supports 7.1 ch of digital sound, I'd recommend using the optical inputs on your HTR-6130 that are made for 5.1 ch sound. I agree that you should be getting sound via HDMI, I was able to from my xbox to my 6130, but it gets cut down to 2 channel sound (good, but pales compared to true 5.1 ch sound). It believe it has to do with Dolby not being backward compatible going from 7.1 to 5.1. Anyhow, in order to get an optical-out on your xbox, you'll need connect with the a/v cables that came with the xbox, along with the HDMI cable. Depending on how old your xbox is, and which model (like an elite edition, etc), You may need to buy a special converter that will allow enough room for both an HDMI connection and the A/V connection. Trust me, I have an HTR-6130 with an xbox and a cable-provider issued box running through it. Optical is the way to go for this particular receiver since it only supports 5.1 ch sound. You can still use the HDMI ports on the receiver as a switch between your two devices, or you could choose to bypass it if you TV has more than one HDMI input port.

Trying to get the sound to work with my HD DVR and PS3 using HDMI cables

Your receiver probably doesn't support audio over HDMI - according to specs, it has just hdmi switching, but not hdmi repeating.
You have to connect PS3 via optical spdif cable to the receiver.

How to hook up a xbox 360 console to my yamaha 6130 receiver

You will need an additional HDMI cord...you can get them without getting ripped off by purchasing at bluejeanscable.com.

Connect your HDMI out from the xbox to the receiver. Connect the additional HDMI cable to the "out" HDMI connection on the receiver and connect the other end of it to your TV.

No Audio Coming Through On HDMI DTV/Cable INPUT

The HTR-6130 cannot decode HDMI audio. It can only act as an HDMI switch. To get the audio from the cable box to be output from the HTR-6130, you will need a separate audio connection (e.g. RCA cable).

Playstation 3 audio connection into Yamaha HTR-6040 AV Receiver

Is Yamaha HTR-640 a receiver? Try HDMI from PS3 to receiver or Sony HDTV. If HDMI from PS3 to receiver the you need and HDMI from receiver to out Sony HDTV. You could connect everything to receiver and HDMI out to HDTV. You can not have an HDMI cable AND an optical cable coming out of the PS3, only one or the other.
