Nothing happening we have had our dvr 1600 for less than a year .. last night we lost power due to a ice storm. My system is all pluged in to a surge protectoer but it was running at the time we lost all power.. we were out for 24 hours in 30 degree weather. when we finally regained power and flipped everything on there is no response from it at all no lights nothing but a high pitched whining noise.. Any ideas on what to do about it or how to fix it or even what happened?

The problem is caps in the power supply the 2 main problems are 2200uf 10v there are 2 of these, change them both, u may find if u leave it on it will come back to life, u can always take the top off and warm up the unit with a hairdryer, on low heat point it at the oppsite end to where the mains plug goes in on the seprate powersupply. if u change the caps, uprate them to 2200uf 16v or 25v, the uf must be the same.

Are you sure it was a surge protector and not just a power strip? They look the same. Just a thought =)

My Oster microwave. Last night we had a pretty big storm, this mourning I tried to use my microwave, No power. I switch plug in outlet ...Nothing happens. How do I get the power back on ?

Depends on what blew, if ti is a power surge is will blow out the low voltage transformer on the main board before it will blow the fuse in the unit, so Probably will need new main board. Problem will be finding someone who carries parts for Oster Microwvaes.

My Acer Aspire M1201 won't turn on.

More than likely your power supply got fried from a power surge during that storm anyway. You'd be surprised at how worthless most surge suppressors are these days.

Continous whine sound on APC Surge Protector 600

Hello Glen,

Yes, The batteries in UPS systems have a 2.5 to 3 year life span so your unit does need new batteries. The whine is usually caused by the charge circuit trying to push the charge to the damaged cells in the battery. You should be able to get replacement batteries from your local battery dealer, no need to order "special" UPS batteries. Open your UPS cover and remove the old battery and bring it to the dealer and they will match it to their stock.

Wii wont turn on, nothing had a lightning storm last night and now nothing

Try replacing the power cable, many times when there is a power surge and you do not have a surge protector it will burn out the transformer on the power cord. If you replace it and still nothing, most likely your Wii has been burned out by a power surge.

We lost power last night for 4 hours due to a storm and when it came back on the monitor did not come back on. I plugged it into my work computer and nothing, no grenn power light, nothing? I bought this...

Power supply or fuse is shot most likely. You can use a voltmeter and test power coming from power supply to main board. Some units use a high voltage transformer instead of a power supply. You can get parts at tigerdirect.com

Storm last night, now Wii won't power up

Unplug everything! There is a "breaker" in the power supply and it may need to be reset. Just unplug all cables from the TV and outlets. Let it sit for a couple hours then plug everything back in and it should work fine. If not then the power supply has shorted out due to a strong power surge. You can claim it under your home owners insurance or call Nintendo and try to get it replaced. Thanks! Good luck and happy gaming!!

No Power to my TV after power outage

A lot of times its simply a fuse that goes out. Either way someone is going to have to open it up and inspect the fuses first. It 's a fairly inexpensive service call.

Hopefully the fuse took the hit from the storm.

Moxi DVR

You will probably want to get the audio module checked by a professional. It could be something as simply as a blown capacitor/resistor, but if you are not familiar with this, best get a professional to diagnose/repair the set.

Try this first:
Unplug the tv from the mains and remove all cables. Wait for about 10 mins. Now plug the TV back into the mains, while holding the power button ON. See if this resolves the issue.

I would also recommend investing in a surge protector/spike buster if have frequent storms in your area.
